Why did you get into nursing?

I'm very curious to know why 'you' got into nursing?

I got into it because I love people, the money is very good, and you have flexible hours. Also, if you have time tell us what you love and hate about nursing.

I first became interested in nursing because I heard that there was a maternity unit in my province that had to close due to poor staffing. It broke my heart to think that this small community hospital could no longer offer obstetrical care to local people.

I also enjoy anything medical! I worked at a doctors office as a teenager to see if nursing would be something I'd be interested in long term. It was a great experience! I loved assisting in small surgeries, measuring and weighing babies, etc.

Also worked as a health care aide in long term care before I finally became a nurse. Since so much of nursing is giving personal care and dealing with people, this proved to be a great learning experience.

My dream is to work on a post partum unit someday. I've considered becoming a midwife as well. We'll see what the future brings!

It was in the family. My mother was a nurse, an old-fashioned battleaxe of a Matron in fact and her mother had been a nurse too in World War 1 imagine that! Grandma had some great tales to tell.

I was fascinated by their tales and always wanted to be a nurse though things have surely changed a bit since their day.

When I first did my pre-reqs, I was in it to help people and to really make a difference. Then life took me down a completely different road. Now, as I'm coming back into nursing (I'm a 1st yr NS), finances (wage increase from my office job) are playing a part of my decision. My DH is in a feast or famine industry and I've held mostly secretarial/office manager positions, so to ensure our ability to survive, I made the decision to go back to school
