Why the fanny packs?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

I have a question for all you male nurses out there - and this is just out of pure curiousity. My coworkers and I (mostly women, I admit) were discussing this - WHY do male nurses wear fanny packs?

There are probably some fanny-pack-totin' female nurses out there, but we have mainly noticed the guys.

Better yet, WHAT IS IN THEM? lol :)

It's a mystery to us gals.

:) That's hilarious. Careful with the term 'waist bag' though. If someone hears it as 'waste bag' then there's a potential association with an ostomy.

:lol2: ... excellent point, I'll stick with belt bag. ;)

Hmmm ... I think next time I put on a rectal bag (not personally) I'll start calling them fanny packs. I wonder if it will catch on ....

:nono: Rectal bag = ... butt bag, or bum bag [A.K.A. fanny pack]

"Fag Bags"... that brings back memories... In the Army (Corvette Guy surely has seen them) fag bags were a bag were vehicle TM's and dispatches were kept that were often "converted" to a purse by attaching a strap that ran from the top end of one side to the other end. Some were specialized and came into their own by being designed with pen/pencil holders and map holders... Soldiers would often (like I did) sew their MOS insignia, unit patches, and name tags, and specialty devices (airborne wings, etc...) Fag Bags rule! Anything to look different from rest! LOL!!! No I'll never wear a fanny pack!

Kinda but not exacly like this...

Lack of pockets on most men's scrubs. :stone

Yes. There ain't no such thing as "too many pockets".

Not that I'd wear a fannypack :p I'd just "stitch" som'more pockets :D

cheers,

I just got a pair of mens Landau scrub pants with cargo type DOUBLE pockets on the legs w/o the button down flap on top. They have Elastic (UGH) and drawstring (ok) Waist. In the catalog they also have some cargo pant scrubs with BELT LOOPS (YEAH) Also try JC Penny's workwear catalog, they have some cargo pants that you can order in white, and they are pants!! I can to back to no underwear then!!

No fanny packs for me if I am not hiking, I dont care what I need to carry. In the Army we calle them "Butt packs" and in the infantry we lived out of them for several days at a time.

I do not wear a fanny pack, but I do think that they are very practical. Cargo pockets are my prefered method, but I understand why some men prefer the fanny pack.

As a side note, in my school, the ladies' uniforms have cargo pocket pants, four pockets on the shirt top, and 2 HUGE pockets on their apron thing. Now, the men's uniform only have the hand pockets on the pants and 2 pockets on the shirt top! GO FIGURE. We have the same stuff to carry during clinical, but far less places to put everything.

We carry our SECRETS in our fanny packs.

We carry our SECRETS in our fanny packs.

We carry our SECRETS in our purses:lol2:

I'd never carry that in my belt bag! :lol2:

but we would look silly if we started carrying our purses around the floors.... uh, wait. Who said I have a purse? I was just.... uh..... um..... making...... um....... a.... uh..... I'm confused!

Second semester student here

Although I did not wear one in first semester, I'm getting one for this semester. I was a paramedic for 4 years and I'm used to the cargo medic pants... LOTS of pockets, and I used them too. Scrubs are so loose and baggy that anything that has weight to it nearly drops your pants altogether. A fanny pack allows you to carry your wallet, money, scissors, tape, PDA, etc. without your pants dropping to your knees. I think manditory scrubs are stupid anyway - there needs to be the option of using some medic pants or something similar.

Doesn't fanny mean bottom/butt/bum?
