This is just one of those curiosity questions meant for general discussion.....
When I go through the posts for the day, I can always count on at least one mention, if not several, of OB/L&D. "How do I get a job there?" "What classes should I take?" "I'm 16 and I've wanted to work in OB since I was 4. What's the best way to get there?" I just wonder what it is about that particular specialty that is so attractive?
In the end I'm glad that most people are drawn to certain specialties--its on of the things that makes nursing really great! :)
I like the elderly folks too. They do not complain or whine and are much more appreciative of anything you can do for them. It is amazing the difference in mind sets of the generations. I take care of an elderly person than a young person any day.
Really? Where do you work lol? I find both groups to be equally whiny lol.

You are funny. I agree that both sets have their whiny moments but it seems that it is more the middle aged and younger people who are more demanding. I think the elderly have learned to deal with things in a different way because they were brought up in a different time. For example: most elderly when in pain are not on the call button at exactly the time their PRN medications are due and do not continue to use the call button every 2 minutes until you can get there and they just seem to take everything more in stride. Younger people expect more "customer service" type of nursing than older folks. Of course, this is just my opinion on this.
