Who's taken the teas v?

Published

And what did you think? I took it last week and feel like I was prepared for the Math and Reading portions by using the study guide but I really struggled with the Science portion. For me it was a lot of Chemistry and it's been a while since I've taken that course. I met the minimum requirements in each category for my program but it's the first year they're using the TEAS V (Last year they used the NET) so I'm not really sure what a competitive score is yet. Anyway I know there are different entrance tests and versions of the TEAS everyone is taking so I was just wondering how people felt about version V.

CRR thanks for the encouragement; it's too bad that I cannot retake the exam since my school only allows one try. Husker, that's a great score...I wouldn't beat myself up over that and I'm sure it's fine. Have a good day everyone!

Hi!

For anyone who has taken the TEAS V.... would you reccomend buying the online practice tests? I have the study guide, but I dont know if I should buy the online practice test A or B.. any suggestions?

Thanks

Hey ya'll, I ended up with a 77.3% overall on the Teas V. I suppose I'm satisfied considering my program mean is a 68.7% and ranks me 86th nationally. I really studied and gave it my all, I just hope it's good enough for the SCSU program. Does everyone feel my score might sufficient? I'm a little worried...yet relieved. Thanks everyone! ;)

I just took the TEAS V last weekend and just got my results yesterday... first I want to say I have been out of school for 23years and have been a stay at home mom for the last 16 1/2 years... so I wasn't surprised when I received the study guide from ATI that I had a LOT of work to do. I had exactly 2 1/2 weeks to study and I was frantic!!! I figured I would take the test in Feb because if needed the school I am applying to has another run of the test in March. Anyway the reason I quoted you is this, not many people post the 'lower' grades and I am glad you did.. I didn't even do as good as you but overall I am happy that I passed. I got a 74% overall with an 81% in Reading, 86.7% in Math and a 58.3% in Science and I have to say I was surprised with my English/Language score, but honestly I think I was soooo frazzled after the Science part my brain just shut down and I received a 66.7% on English/Language - all in all I received higher scores than the national and program mean so I was happy with that and I was ranked "Proficient".. so I am hopeful! The school I am applying for is for an LPN program and they only want a 61% or better in Reading, 50% or better in Math, 33% or better in Science and a 53% or better in English/Language - so anyway I posted my results for anyone that is as nervous as I was.. just study and do the best you can and hope for the best.. that really is all you can do. I wish anyone taking this test in the future some luck.

YES I highly recommend them. You can call the number and they will tell you what you need, instead of being like me and guessing and buying the wrong things to begin with. They are super helpful when you call. I took one of the tests the day I got them and another 2 days before my 'big' test - from the first to the second test I improved immensely using the ATI TEAS V Study Guide and the McGraw Hill Nursing Exam Study guide. Good luck!

Chriscrow, congrats on your score! I have come to learn that only a handful of people broke an 80 on the exam, so I think the norm is actually below a 70. I have a 3.85 gpa, I guess I've never been that good at standardized tests; however, a 77 is good enough I was told. You should be proud of yourself for scoring what you did (especially for not being in school for years). For everyone who has not taken the exam and scores in the 70's, don't freak out...it's actually good for this version (since it's more difficult than previous versions). Of course aim higher...but don't lose hope if it's not what you wanted it to be. Good luck!

I took my TEAS test last weekend and got an 86% overall. I actually scored lowest on the English portion. I have no idea why, except to say that I think I rushed through it and didn't read all of the answer choices close enough. I have been out of college for 8 years and have decided to return for nursing. I was so nervous before this test because I haven't cracked a math or science book in forever. I used the ATI study guide, but I didn't really feel like it did a great job of explaining the science concepts. I went to the library and checked out a few GED science study guides since this test is supposed to be based on things that you would have learned in high school. I think that they helped A LOT. I am going to try to test one more time and see if I can raise my score - especially in the English/language section, since I know I can do better!

has anyone taken the GRE exam and the TEAS and compared the two? I've taken the GRE exam and took a class, studied for couple months and score was 940. Is the GRE exam harder than the TEAS test? (for english and math... gre doesnt have science). thanks!!

how are the crash courses for teas in the cal state hayward? Anyone actually did well once they took the classes. Also, what do they teach OR give to prepare? pleas help.

I bought the practice booklet for TEAS V (I take it tomorrow) and I have found it very helpful. I took the TEAS IV and this one is harder in the "English Usage and Language" and "Science" portions, about the same in reading and WAY easier in math. I just wish there were more practice tests in the booklet. There are two and I've already gone through both of those and the practice problems.

I'm worried about the conflicting reports on the test. My advisor said that students have been scoring 10 points less on Version 5 than version 4. I've read on this website that many people score about 8-10 percentage points higher on the actual test than their practice tests. I'm averaging about 79-86% on the practices for TEAS IV so far, so I'm worried I could go either way

:(

GOOD LUCK!!!!! Let us know how it goes!:yeah:

The practice booklet is essential. It comes with two paper practice exams which are also very helpful. I used the study guide straight for about a week and ended up with a 99th percentile score. I can guarantee that without the study guide I would have done very poorly.

So if you're wondering whether or not the ~$30 is worth it, don't think any more. Buy it!

For those of you that think I'm crazy for quoting a $30 price, be sure to check barnes&noble. I got mine for $28 shipped, the exact study guide that atitesting sells minus the online stuff.

Okay ... I took the TEAS V this morning and my scores were as follows:

Reading: 81%

Mathematics: 90%

Science: 70.8%

English: 76.7%

Adjusted Individual Total Score: 78.7%

ATI Academic Preparedness Level: Advanced

National Percentile Rank: 88

Program Percentile Rank: 88

This score REALLY baffles me ... The reading section seemed pretty easy. I breezed through it and still got only an 81 :( I had a 97.5% on the TEAS IV. Science was difficult, which I expected ... too many chemistry questions. I BARELY finished the math portion and got a 90%, which is CRAZY considering math is my WORST subject and I scored in the high 60s last time. I am very pleased about that!

I knew I would struggle a bit with English because the exam tests you on basically what is the "Queen's English" and includes lots of grammar usage that is not widely used in everyday life (in or out of academia). Most people would agree that the sentence, "The team is expecting their championship game to be difficult," to be a grammatically correct sentence. However, "their" should be "its" because "team" is a singular noun and not plural. AARGGH! It's little things like that lowered my score in that area.

I plan on taking this test again and REALLY boning up on the Science and English portions, but considering my ranking I'm not entirely dissatisfied with my score. I spent six days studying and spent about 2 or 3 hours each day going over the practice problems. Granted, 75% of my study time was spent on the math portions I knew I would struggle with, hence my EXCELLENT score in that area. Next time I'm going to treat this like a REAL exam in a classroom and make flash cards with all the information in the book and learn them ALL. Everything you need to know for the test is in the book and I plan on knowing that book forwards and backwards next time :)
