Who's applying for Augusta University's CNL program 2017

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am taking pre-reqs and getting ready to apply. I would love to hear from others who are applying.

Yes I am. I'm filling out everything regardless of it saying optional. What did you made on the GRE? How long did you study for it? What's your GPA??? Hope that's okay to ask.

Awesome! Me, too! I think I was feeling a little uncertain as to whether I was putting too much information. It makes me feel better to know that someone else is also filling in everything. :)

It is definitely okay to ask. I studied for the GRE for about 12 weeks

I saw that there is an area to explain any challenges/obstacles, so that is a relief. What about you?

I've just always been told not to leave anything blank. Even if you put N/A. Sorority life has taught me that Lolz. You did really well. How long did you study for the GRE??? Yeah I filled out that section as well haha. I'm trying to have my application submitted by the end of this month because I would like a decision before next semester. Fingers crossed. I will take the MAT in two weeks. I'm done with all my pre-read. GPA is a 3.17... So, I hope that's good enough. I've seen people with your GPA make it. They say it is all about the interview

I studied for the GRE for about 12 weeks. I also hope to have my application submitted by the end of this month. Good luck on the MAT! Let me know how you do!

igh23, looks like I am in the same boat as you, stats-wise. I have a 2.99 GPA but it will be at a 3.01 after this semester if I make an A in A&P. I am scheduled to take the GRE on October 23rd. I've been studying for the past month and am scoring 305-310 on practice tests though I'd like to hit the 315 mark to make up for my low GPA.

I'm worried about applying before this semester is over b/c my GPA is lower than the 3.0 minimum but I also know that it's better to apply earlier than later. I guess I am just nervous all the way around.

Good luck to you on the GRE, kate888! Keep studying hard! My feelings were the same as yours about applying after my current semester grades came in, but we can always go ahead and apply and submit the updated transcript after the grades come in. I'm really glad that AU looks at more than just GPA and GRE/MAT scores! Let us know how you do on the GRE! Are you hoping for Augusta or Athens?

Thanks! I am leaning towards submitting my application as soon as I get my GRE scores in and just writing in the "academic obstacles" section about my GPA. I am applying for the Athens campus and I really really hope I get in b/c I can't drive to August every day. This is a second career for me (I'm 38) so I have a husband and kids and a house here in Athens. Fingers crossed.

NICUNurseToBe - how did you find out these stats? Very interesting . . . .

I hope you get into the Athens campus! What career are you switching from? This is a bit of a career shift for me also. I'd been working as a social worker and planned to get my MSW, but a lot of my work put me into contact with healthcare and I decided that I wanted to become a nurse, so I began taking pre-reqs last year.

igh23 - I've been working for start-up biotech companies for the past 10 years. I really love it but it is a really unstable job market, especially when you don't want to move around. My whole family is here in Athens so I intend to stay in this community for a while. I actually started working on the side as a doula about 6 years ago and that's where I really came in contact with the nursing field. In the big scheme of things, I love people and science and having a regular job. Nursing seems like a great fit. Now I just hope I get into this program! Are you local too?

Yes, at this point I think it's safe to say that I'm a local; I came here for school and never left. Originally, I'm from SE GA, but there isn't a lot of job opportunity. I loved Athens and decided to stay. I love science and helping others so it seemed like a good transition. Social work is amazing, but I wanted to do something more science related. The CNL role could not be more perfect for me since I'll be able to combine my passion for social justice with my love of science.

Wow! I think the doula role is so interesting and very needed. Many of my friends who have children had a doula. Are you interested in continuing on that path for nursing, or do you think you might try other areas of nursing? That is something else that drew me to nursing (as well as social work), the varied areas one can work in over their career.

Hey you guys sorry this is like test week for me and everyone has numerous assignments they want turned in. Yada yada yada. Anyways. When I was interested in the program before the application opened. I called and spoke with the lasy about some concerns I currently had, and I just asked and she gave them to me. So, I wrote them. From previous forums some people applied with lower than a 3.0 and did not get accepted at all... So, just be careful when applying because your application will be complete.
