Who wears a nursing cap?

Nurses General Nursing

i have to say.. i really want to wear a nurses cap! maybe not all the time, and of course i would have to acquire one first (sadly not part of my schools tradition).

not that i get mistaken for other people who wear scrubs: house keeping, the desk clerks, dietary workers, veterinarians, transporters, nurses assistants, hair dressers or walmart employees, pharmacy techs, prisoners, dental techs, receptionists... (i mean, i do have a stethoscope around my neck :lol2:)

anyone out there wear a nurses cap? would you like to?

i think i'm going to order one online, strap it down with hair pins, and hope it's not too windy out!

who's with me?

I always wear my whites and cap during nurses week. The older folks love it.

What a great idea! I will, too :)

I've told you all before, no facility can mandate caps for female nurses only and not run afoul of various federal and local anti-discrimination laws. Just as LE, fire departments, airline pilots and the lot of former male only professions that at one time required females to wear skirts, laws and court rulings ban uniforms based upon gender without a *VERY* good reason. In fact I cannot tell you the last time I've seen a "meter maid", prison matron, or even crossing guard wearing a skirt.

Methinks the only exception to the above may be the US military were dress uniforms for females may still require a skirt.

Now if a hospital wants to mandate caps for *all* nursing staff, that is another kettle of fish. However if they are counting on the male staff nurses simply not wishing to bother out of some sort of tradition I'll wager my rent money they'd loose. You just know there will be one "male nurse" dead serious would show up for duty in *his* cap and there wouldn't be a thing anyone could do legally to stop him. In fact if any hospital did try to go down this route I'd suggest female staff nurses round up a few men and let them have at it. There are still enough "old school" gals around who would drop dead at the thougt of a man wearing a cap and the scheme would be abandoned pronto. *LOL* For added measure find out what school the DON/CNO went to and wear her school's cap. That ought to drive home the message.

Long as we're talking about bringing back caps why not go whole hog and reinstate 3/4 sleeves for RNs, regulation shoes (no clogs), girdles, and mandate sweaters only of a certain color.:D

Where I work we are still allowed to choose our scrub color. On days I wear all white (yes, even the shoes), I get lots of looks/stares and compliments. If it didn't look silly on a guy, I'd even wear the cap (I earned it as much as the ladies did) :)
