Who gets the backpack

Published

When you have I’ll students who goes to the locker to get their backpack?

The secretaries cannot do it on occasion and get upset.

I do not want to leave my students in my health office who have asthma or cane in for dizziness....I don’t want to leave them to go get a backpack for the student who is going home.

my principal does not want parents going into the school.

today I can back to my office with a note that the secretary gave a student their inhaler before gym....well they were running the pacer today I would have like to have assessed student.

i came back another time to a diabetic student waiting to get into office to check their blood sugar.

principal blew me off, he thinks it is my job to go get the students backpack and leave my students in the health office....this pisses me off, my blood is boiling, I’m the one that needs to write the note if something happens and saying I left the office to get a backpack is not going to be acceptable

to the board of nursing.

Any advice? I am so angry and feel

so unsupported

It just depends on the situation. Sometimes the student does if they feel up to it, sometimes I do, sometimes the teacher will have a classmate bring it down. Our school is relatively small so I don't worry about being out the couple minutes it takes. My office is right off the main office so they can hold down the fort in most cases.

I had this situation at my last school. Kids ALWAYS needed something out of those dang lockers when they had sprained ankles, etc. and couldn't walk on their own. If I could, I would wheel (or escort) them but sometimes I would utilize a student aid to assist if I was busy.

My new school - we don't have lockers, it is all in their class so I just call teacher to send down.
