Just curious :) :)
I definitely noticed myself repeating a few things on the insight resume. That was hard to complete! I worked on it for MONTHS, and when the time came to send it off, I felt really nervous - it's basically the only way they get to know the applicant, aside from GPA and work history. I wrote about single parenting for my leadership, and did manage to apply it to nursing school - time management, conflict resolution, etc. The questions were pretty thought-provoking. I found the creativity one the hardest - I realized I don't have too many hobbies left, between work, school and parenting. Sigh.Actually, I've felt that way about every application I've sent - nervous to let it go, wondering if I forgot anything, or could have made it better...
Where else are you applying, momazon?
Also, Cinquefoil, I thought my answers worked out to be longer than 100 words each; I'm applying for the regular BSN, but I think they're the same. I just fit them to text field. It was hard not to be too wordy!
Good luck to everyone!
LOL you mean all my checking to make sure I had EXACTLY 100 words or less might have been avoided?
I think the point with each of these answers was not to get big-huge-laundry-list-of-achievement answers, momazon, but to get a sense of who you are, personally, in relation to your activities and achievements. From what I gather it's a snapshot of your values system and your personality, meant to level the playing field between working moms and people whose family connections got them in to the Mayo Clinic when they were 14. Look up "Insight Resume" and "Admissions" and you'll get some interesting stuff about what the format is about.
I talked to ---- about the NCAS processing time....turns out it may take NCAS 5 weeks after receiving your information to process it all, which was a freak out for me until Mindy told me that though it would be NICE if we had all our stuff in to NCAS by 5 weeks before the deadline, we didn't HAVE to, and Linfield will accept any information that was POSTMARKED to NCAS by February 1st.
I think it's a new system and they're still working the bugs out.
Good luck to all of us!
Hi All, I am working on my insight resume and see that someonehas a link to an online guide, can you post this for me. I must say I am glad I an not the only only one that has transcripts delayed. I requested mine over a month ago to be sent to CAS and still they have not been received. I went in yesterday and had them re-send them, but my school would not send them any other way than general postal delivery (I offered to pay more). I am in a panic here and wish I could have been able to send them out myself. (OHSU allows this).
I spoke to a friend that was accepted last year, and yes CAS is a new for Linfield.
Someone mentioned work history? I did not see a highlighted area for this, are we really needed to provide this on the CAS?
Sorry If I babble....to many applications.....to many Bi papers due....
Thanks!
Oh, I've emailed with them multiple times. They did get back to me quickly, too. I sent my transcripts via certified mail in December, but one of the schools didn't include the transcript tracking paper they require, so I had them resent as soon as I found out. The customer service person told me they had to be mailed directly from the school, so I didn't mail them myself this time.I'm sure they got them, and just haven't entered into the system yet....I think I have definitely overestimated my easy-going nature during nursing application season!
ARRGH! Shock & horror! I was going to send in my transcripts myself! I wish all this was made clearer at the get-go....I'm just glad I found this out just barely in time.
This is long, but may be very helpful. I found it years ago online and now can't refind the link, so here's the whole text:
The Insight Resume is required of ALL undergraduate students (first-year, transfer, and degree partnership program students). It is best to treat the questions as though it was a written interview than an essay because the answers are so short.
So, in those answers, we are looking more for your experience, and it helps if you can think of an example and explain it to show us how you've for example, exhibited your leadership. In these questions we're not impressed by the quantity of the things you've done, but by the quality. It also helps if you can be honest. The more honest you are, the better, and don't forget to answer all parts of the question.
So, for leadership, try to show us how you've used your leadership qualities (influencing people, settling disputes, initiating something, going beyond your required duties or expectations)
Knowledge/creativity doesn't necessarily have to do with art. We want to see how you've development in your interest which can be art and part of that development is being able to see the world in a different way; like you're showing us something we've never thought about or seen before through your interest. It helps if you go back to when you first approach an interest that you have now. What made you pursue your interest? Show us how you saw it in a different way than when you first approached that interest and what steps you took to developing in it (steps that showed you not only tried it but went further to learn more and/or practice more), why you stuck with it.
Dealing with adversity: Something that you've struggled with (significant challenge) that required you to turn to someone for help. Tell us what happened, who you turned to, what their role was in helping you, and what you learned from your experience about yourself.
Community service; this one is vague, but we look for something that you're passionate about and wanted to give back to the community by volunteering your time. Usually if you're passionate about something, you'll be invested in it and do it more than just one weekend or to fulfill a community service requirement.
Handling systemic challenges; This questions has to do with discrimination which comes in more forms than just racial. Discrimination is pretty much being treated differently or unfairly based on your age, sex, religion, race, disability, etc. So, think of a time where you were discriminated against or witnessed it. How did you handle the situation, what did you learn, and how has it prepared you to contribute to the OSU community.
Goals; these are referring to long term goals. We want to see that you are capable of working towards a goal. Show us what work you've done or are doing to achieve your long term goal.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one FREAKING OUT about the NursingCas thing. It took me a month to complete it, all the while grumbling about why I have to pay them, if they won't even enter my relevant coursework - although it was interesting to dredge up the D in History from my late nineties college experience that didn't transfer to community college.
And my mom lives in MA, so I know how long letters take to get there! About 3, maybe 4 days. SIGH. Also, one of their reps told me they wouldn't mark the transcripts as received until the application fee was paid - maybe that's helpful to someone out there....
Ok, vent over. Linfield is my first choice for schools, and I just want to not have to think about the application anymore! As opposed to, say, checking the NursingCAS website 4 times a day to see if they've received my transcripts.
I'm glad I was able to spare someone the trauma of having their transcripts rejected, Cinquefoil! I thought I had read over the FAQ's pretty thoroughly, but I missed it!
And gkneez, I think the work experience was under the Professional Experience tab, by the personal statement. It was not required, so it didn't have a red arrow. Under that section, you could enter in relevant work experience, irrelevant work experience, awards, and volunteer stuff. You may be able to still add to it, even if you've submitted your application.
I'm glad there are others going through this! My family is starting to think I'm totally nuts over nursing applications!
Now I feel kind of hysterical about the transcript receipt issue - I checked today when I got home, and they were received! It says they were received January 14th, so it took about 5 business days to get them in the system. One thing to cross of the worry list...
Writing the proctored essay tomorrow for OHSU, then I'm free and clear to only worry about actually getting into a school!
I'm applying this year also... this site looks fun :)
Does anyone know when we'll get letters? I've heard April 15th-23rd-ish. I hadn't planned on applying anywhere else, but I'm thinking I should probably apply to the main campus as a BS in psych (I want to do mental health nursing eventually) is my second choice, and I don't want to miss the application deadline waiting for the yes/no letter!
