Which state is easiest to obtain Licence?

Hi, this is my situation.

I would like to obtain licensure by examination from any state that would be easiest for me.

Which state does not require the following?

CGFNS exam

Local board from origin country

English prof. test

I've gone to various board of nursing sites and found some but everyone I've seen requires some sort of english test.

Well the reason I picked NY over CA is I thought NY had faster processing time than CA but if NY takes 4 months isn't that same as CA? I'll have a SSN within weeks of arrival to the states so I don't mind that CA won't issue a hard license until I have that SSN since I'll have it soon anyway.

So if I were to apply through California wouldn't that be better since the cost is less as well and the time frame is similar to NY?

And don't forget that you don't have a local license yet. Part of the CVS is asking PRC validation of licensure in addition to asking your school for the TORs.

The time-line I qouted for CVS was just a very rough estimate.

huh? I thought NY board licensure doesn't require local board license from Philippines? Am I mistaken?

You can read the instructions for CVS. See if there's a way around it but that's what CVS do. 1. Send a request to your school to send them a copy of your TORs and 2. send a request to PRC to send them a copy of licensure validation. 3. send those 2 things to NYSED for evaluation

I don't know if there's a way around the local license validation request but pls. read all your prospective BONs instructions well and compare them w/ each other and see w/c best applies to your situation.

There maybe some BONs that process faster or more advantageous to apply for initial licensure but if you can't comply w/ their req'ts then you really can't do anything about it.

I think you are relying too much on other people for your info.

You can easily read those things on the BONs instruction and application packets. Then ask if there's something you don't understand. Posters here will be glad to help you out that way.

Is saipan a state? I never heard of that.

Saipan is a US territory, very close to Guam. It is in the Northern Marianas Islands to be exact.

Many nurses from the Philippines actually go there to take the NCLEX exam, the center there has been around for years. Hong Kong is just a year old.

Yeah I thought about new mexico but when I checked with them, they said I can't get licensure by exam because I reside in Virginia which is a "compact state." Seems that if you live in a compact state, you cannot get licensure by exam from another compact state.. AZ is also not an option because it is compact state as well :(

Please carefully review the following specific situations to help you decide what action you need to take regarding your licensure status.

  • If you are currently licensed in Virginia and Virginia is your primary state of residence and your license is unencumbered, you will be afforded the multi-state privilege to practice in all compact states. You will not be issued a license marked multi-state privilege on January 1, 2005. However, anyone verifying your license with the Board will be informed of the multi-state privilege. A new license will be issued at the time of your next renewal.
  • If you are currently licensed in Virginia, as well as another compact state, and the other compact state is your primary state of residence, your Virginia license will not be valid after January 1, 2005. Please destroy your Virginia nursing license as of January 1, 2005.
  • If you are currently licensed in Virginia and your primary state of residence is another compact state in which you are not currently licensed, you will need to apply for licensure in your primary state of residence (home state). Your Virginia license will not be valid after January 1, 2005. Licensure in your primary state of residence (compact state) will allow you to practice in Virginia.
  • If you are currently licensed in Virginia and employed by the military/federal government and declare a compact state as your state of residency, you must obtain licensure in your state of declared residency. If you reside in a non-compact state, the rules regarding mutual recognition licensure do not apply and the federal exemptions apply.
  • If you are currently licensed in a non-compact state, you must continue to hold a license issued by each non-compact state in which you practice.

Hello JaniceLM. Nurses licensed in one compact state may obtain licensure in another compact state by simply declaring a transfer of work location and residence to that new compact state where you have chosen to transfer to. Please check on the guidelines under "compact states" - search the web.

I fully agree with ariel. I think janice is confused. She's trying to avoid licensure to any state member in of Compact State. I read this thread thinking it was about which state licensure is easiest.
