Which province for new (old) grad?

Published

I am a new grad in Ontario (or old grad since my hfo just expired). Luckily, I got hired through hfo at a LTC. I only did one in class orientation so far few weeks ago and they still have not called me to do orientations on the floor. Is it possible I am fired??Anyways, since HFO is only for 6 month (DOC said I will be mostly likely switched to casual after hfo ends), I want to prepare for the next job. It seems like it is almost impossible to get a job in Ontario with such little or no experience. I have applied to more than 200 different positions from correctional service to Government of Canada First Nations job (not including all those hfo postins) with barely any replies.

Long story short, I am considering to relocate if I land a secure job even if its a part time. I have been looking up job postings in saskatchewan, Manitoba and even New Brunswick. Any recommendations on where I should be moving to? I want to pick one province and start applying for the license since I guess they won't think I am a serious applicant without their province's license.

Thank you very much in advance! :)

The job fair was hectic. :roflmao: I talked to recruiters from saskatchewan, Manitoba, NF, Yukon and even from Canadian Forces.

After talking to the recruiters, I found Manitoba most attractive. I gave all of them my resume. They told me to continue doing what I am doing (applying through their website). :nurse:

I also went to the job fair and they encouraged me to keep applying on their website. I feel like it was a waste of time attending the event.

Did anybody take your resume? Actually, last time I went, one of them emailed me to set up a phone interview. I declined back then because I was so overwhelmed with nclex... I regret it :( And yes, I found that many of them were basically just giving out their website address which we can easily just google. ...

You did not waste your time going to the job fair. They referred you to their website because when employers choose their top three applicants to interview, they look for candidates in their online resume databases first. Also, they keep a record if they received your resume at the job fair. They want a large pool of applicants to choose from.

You've handed your resume to the employers in person and submitted it online, now FOLLOW UP! Don't let them forget your name or how interested you are in working on their team.

No, only the guy from SK was friendly. The rest seemed exhausted and we're ready to go home. I went very late in the afternoon so that's probably why their mood was low. All they did was refer me to their website and gave me their pamphlets. Also, some of them are looking for speciality nurses like ICU and critical care which I am not certified to work in.

I heard Nova Scotia is making a 2 year RN fast track programs because they are that short of RN's. Try applying there. My friend says they are very short there as well.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Not sure if it is going to be followed through but there was talk that part of the requirements was you had to be a Nova Scotia resident to qualify. Dalhousie is the university offering 2 year accelerated course

I did my phone interview with Central Health (Newfoundland) who took my resume at the job fair I attended. I will see how it goes!
