Ok, here is a list of prereq's that I have to take before I can start my nursing program next fall.
English 111 and 112
Math (I forget which one)
Chem 101
Bio 101
Bio 141 (A&P 1)
Bio 142 (A&P 2) or Bio 150 (micro)
Psy (again I forget the #)
Intro to health care
I am going to have to take either A&P 2 or Micro in the summer (only a 10 week class) and I'm not sure which one to take. I'm not even sure what classes I should start out with in the fall. I know I have to take Bio 101 because it is a prereq to A&P 1.
I think I will take the classes in this order what do you guys think. Should I switch things around differently?
Fall
Math
Eng 111
Spring
A&P 1
Eng 112
Psy
Summer
A&P 2 *or* Micro
What should I do, I've never taken any chem or bio and I'm horrible at math. Is taking all 3 in the same semester a bad idea? Maybe I should take intro to health care in the fall and take chem in the spring.
~edited to add, I do have an appt with an adviser but its not for 2 weeks and I want to kinda know what I want to take when I meet with them. I took my placement test today and I scored well (I think) on english and reading comp. but I answered ALL the math wrong. I just had to guess because I didnt know how to solve any of the problems. I hope I don't end up haveing to take any developmental classes other than the one math class. I'm afraid I wont be able to finish all the classes before next fall if I end up with 4 or 5 extra classes. EVERY CLASS has s darn prereq.

What kind of Math are you taking. Chemistry requires math skills such as simple Algerbra, so you might switch the chemistry with something in your next semester like intro to health care or Psy. The math and chemistry might be a bit much to take at once.
Then of course you run to the joy of taking Chem and A&P at the same time, and a little chem background might be helpful in A&P.
I would make sure your comfortable with your math skills prior to taking chemistry.
Good luck to you. Anything is possible, any combination is possible when you're motivated.

Math is important in Chemistry. Chemistry was a tougher subject for me (except lab) and I have a pretty substantial background in math courses. That's not meant to scare you! Different people excell at different classes. That, and I took that Chem class at a time when I didn't apply myself as I could and should have. I'm taking A&P right now and some Chem background does help. I'm sure your meeting with the advisor will help clear things up! :)
Good luck!

Does your school admit in the Spring? You might consider this if it's a option. This would give you additional time to complete those pre-reqs at a little slower pace - especially the Fall semester (I'm guessing you are taking 16 hours which includes a difficult combination - Bio, Chem and Math). It probably would be a good idea - especially if you are having to take the 'development' classes for math (I'm guessing that would take 2 separate classes).
Do you have a list of the classes you will need to have to fulfill your degree requirements? I'm guessing you will need (give or take):
Social/Behavioral Science (3-6 hours)
Humanities/Fine Arts (~ 3 hours)
Another Psych class (probably something like Developmental Psych)
Phys Ed (probably 1-3 hours)
Nutrition may be recommended by your school
Personally, I recommend (to everyone I talk to) you take all your support classes (or as many as possible) before starting nursing school. This will give you the ability to focus solely on your nursing instead of having to divide your time.
Just something for you to chew on...................
Good Luck

I'm not sure which math class I will have to take. It will be the lowest one I'm sure because math is not my strong point. When I was in high school(13 years ago) it was not required to take anything higher then general math and I didn't think I would ever need anything more advanced. (how dumb I was for thinking that!!)
Very good point about the Chem, I better take it in the spring after I get my math skills up to where they need to be.
I think I will check to see if I can take the developmental math this summer. I know there are some classes starting in July that will be ending right before fall classes start. That way I could take a higher math class this fall and hopefully that would put me where I need to be by spring.
I guess the worst thing that can happen is I'll have to wait one year longer to get into the RN program so that I can take more general classes. I hope I wont have to do that, but if I do then I do. I don't want to be struggling in my nursing classes.
Thanks so much for the Advice.:)
Princess74, that sounds like a better plan. You need basic Algerbra skills prior to Chemistry and if you haven't had that yet, don't stress yourself out by taking chemistry without a better math foundation.
Just a humble opinion.
Good luck to you.

My counselor advise to take Intro to Math this summer. I will taking Chem(Intro) Biology 1 in the Fall with English, and Reading(development classes) didn't do really well on the placement test.
Good luck
