Which job should I pick as a new grad RN?!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I just graduated in May and I have two job offers for Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. One is on an intermediate Neuro floor w/ some neuro trauma, and the other is for cardiac ICU. I'm not sure which one to pick, but I'm leaning a little more towards the neuro floor. Any input? Advice? Also, I'm very much of a go-getter who loves a challenge and I'm anxious to learn. I eventually want to be a flight nurse or work in the ER. I'm just wondering about other people's experiences.

You could work the weekends in neuro and take one shift during the week in cardiac or floating to other critical care areas. They would love you, you'd earn a ton of money, and you'd learn a whole lot.

It is certainly your decision but I myself would lean towards the cardiac ICU, especially if you wanted to consider being a flight nurse one day. They require a lot of critical care time to even go into a program. ((Had the opportunity to go with the flight crew one day, it was VERY cool :) ))

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

Congrats! Being an ICU nurse is awesome! :)

I agree! I'd like to pick up extra shifts here and there to gain more experience, but I want to be careful not to get too burnt out or overwhelmed my first year.
