Which job should I pick as a new grad RN?!
I agree! I'd like to pick up extra shifts here and there to gain more experience, but I want to be careful not to get too burnt out or overwhelmed my first year.

Which job should I pick as a new grad RN?!
I just accepted the cardiac ICU job! I'm very excited to have this opportunity and thank you for everyone for their input! I know i still have a long road ahead of me but i like a good challenge and i know this experience can help develop a lot of my skills as a nurse.

Which job should I pick as a new grad RN?!
Thanks for all the input! A few more things to mention, both jobs are full time overnights and the ICU job is weekend option. Also, I'm relocating about 200 miles south from st. Louis to Springfield mo. Both jobs said training and teamwork are great on their floor, and I haven't had an opportunity to shadow. I guess I've heard from other nurses that if you work neuro you can work anywhere. And I don't know about working the weekend option... Something about the neuro floor and interview made me lean towards it more but I don't want to pass up a good opportunity. Cardiac and neuro were my favorite subjects to learn about in school, but this is just such a hard decision for me..

Which job should I pick as a new grad RN?!
I just graduated in May and I have two job offers for Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. One is on an intermediate Neuro floor w/ some neuro trauma, and the other is for cardiac ICU. I'm not sure which one to pick, but I'm leaning a little more towards the neuro floor. Any input? Advice? Also, I'm very much of a go-getter who loves a challenge and I'm anxious to learn. I eventually want to be a flight nurse or work in the ER. I'm just wondering about other people's experiences.

Wow, I'm glad to hear the tools for success class is good! I was afraid I was wasting my money but I'm glad it's worth it. I'm taking my class the beginning of aug in the early mornings..yay! I'm excited that I finally made the program, now i'm afraid I won't be able to make it through the next two years! I think it's definitly important to form study groups during school.. you can really learn a lot that way, plus it's a good way to get support as well. We all know the next two years will be really tough! Good luck to everyone! I'm sure we will all run into each other at one point or another! My name is Sara:) Has anyone bought their uniforms yet?

I'm gonna try to take the nursing 101 as well, and i'm probably doing all my classes in the evening as well. it fits my work schedule the best. i'm sure recording lectures would help a lot, so i'm looking for a recorder. i'm sure i'll look like a geek, haha, but idc. i'm determined to get thru work and school.

I plan on going for my BSN as well... and later maybe even further once i have some experience under my belt. but i'd love to work in labor and delivery though. that's my goal. and for my bsn i'll prob go to umsl, just cuz it's not too far from me. the good thing about barnes though is they are paying for my school. since sccc is so cheap everything is paid, books, tuition and all. that will save me a lot of money!

I didn't know they offered evening courses...that's neat. I could probably do either as well. I'm anxious to get the letter too! I hope it comes today.. April 4th isn't far away. I'm in the same boat as you, I have all my classes done and this semester i took medical terminology just to help even more and so far i have really learned a lot! Do you plan on getting a bachelor's degree anywhere? I know SCCC has some transfer options to some nearby schools.

Congrats on being accepted! I'm accepted too. Though I have not yet received my official letter. I wonder if we're just supposed to register as normal? I also am working full time. I was considering applying to a hospital but i'm not sure how much i would make and I'd be unable to take a paycut at this time. Are you going to be doing days for nursing school or evenings? Thanks! I haven't recieved my official letter yet either...but i took my test in january so i know i'm one of the first to take it (and pass!) I believe they should explain registering for classes in the letter. If you get the letter and it doesn't say anything about registering I would call them and ask. I get 11.50/hr but since i work overnights it's 12.50/hr and an extra 1.85/hr for weekends (which i work every other weekend) so it's not bad. I only make 10.75/hr now and it's at an airport which doesn't help me at all with my career. i thought st. charles community college only offered days for their associate of science in nursing, so i guess days. and one professor i spoke with said the clinical hours can really vary because it's more on the hospitals schedule than the schools. What about you?

I'm sure it will be a great experience! I live close to SCCC and live alone and will be working full time...so any tips to manage would be nice and also if you ever need a study buddy i'm sure we'd both benefit! :):):)

hi.. it's been a while since i've been on the site. my dosage class was from oct-nov and i have one class left next tues. the class has helped a lot and the teacher (tieman) is great about relaying all the info you will need on the test. i feel very confident that i will pass this year, yet i'm still very anxious and nervous considering i've been waiting for 2 years to get in the program and everything depends on this one test.. i take my test jan 24th at 9 am. i guess your class is over. since the test is still a ways away if you still want a study partner let me know. i live in st charles not far from the school : )

Ok...so I have had a long road trying to get into a nursing program and is way too long to go into details. But I applied in Feb 09 to get into the nursing program at SCCC for Fall of 2010..but I failed the dosage test. I cried so much it was unreal. I felt so prepared for the test and was positive that I had passed so I took it really hard. I reapplied today (June 2010) for fall of 2011 and she said since my application date goes back to 2009 I should be at the top of the list so I should be able to register for the dosage test at one of the soonest times. I did pay, again, for the dosage class to make sure I pass (i did the online class the year before) so I hope the classroom works better for me. I'm just so nervous and afraid I will fail again. I felt like I understood everything before so it's just so hard for me. Does anyone have any similar experiences or any advice to give? I just don't wanna fail again... Thanks!
