Guess that would depend on where you are and what you want to do. Can you give more details?

Are you talking about teaching versus private, rural versus urban, etc. Even with some of that info, it may be completely different from hospital to hospital. Whereever you go, look for a place that hires a lot of new grads and has a solid, well planned orientation. Don't let them "psych" you into taking a position you are not qualified to do. Many times, they will boost your ego by telling you they have confidence in you and you can make it, etc. BUT, you know what you need and don't let anyone bully you. All orientations are not created equal!

i am also looking for a hospital with great orientation, preceptor etc. i have worked as an aide the past few years and my floor offered me a position but they have rn's training the new grads who have not even been working a year yet and offer only a few weeks orientation. no thanks. i have looked at all the major hospitals in my area (milwaukee) and feel only one has a decent program. we don't have a shortage here so i can't count on getting a job at only one hospital.
this is my second degree and i learned from my first job in business a great orientation/training can make or break you. i honestly will move anywhere for good training and work any nursing area. for me it is all about the training. i can love any job with good training and hate my favorite with no training.
i would like to relocate back to the east coast. so anyone in baltimore, boston, nyc/long island where would you work or not work? but, i am willing to move anywhere (i like a large city) that has a great orientation/hospital/working conditions, etc. i want to do travel nursing in 5 years so where i live for the next five is no concern to me.
so don't be shy, if you love your job/hospital/training program let me know!

A the one that will hire you. Seriously I guess it all depends on what kind of nursing you want to do and the experence you bring to the job.
For example if you want to do ER but have never even set foot in one I would expect a lengthy one of at least 12 weeks if not 6 months. Now for some one who has worked in the ED as a tech and also has been a EMT/Paramedic for years 6 to 8 weeks might be sufficiant.
I'd go with the hospital that offers what I want as far as money, benefits, carreer growth and meets my needs for orientation or is willing to adjust their oriention to fit what I need.

one with a long enough orientation to make you feel comfortable being "on your own"
i personally like the teaching hospital atmosphere, the nurses seem to more willing to teach new grads
*and of course the hospital that meets YOUR needs ($/hr, benefits, etc)

Do you realize this is a board assessable around the world. You really need to narrow things down to maybe a zip code. :balloons:

Any of the Mayo's. Nurse/patient ratio is terriric, Pay is competitive, schedules as 3-12's weekly, and most of all they like to bring in new grads so they can get to them before they learn bad habits.
Scottsdale, AZ is the best Mayo.
