Does anybody know what department I can work in the hosptial to get experience to work in any department. Since I am a workacholic I would like to be able to work overtime as well. Someone told me if I work in the department for heart surgery that it is enough experience to work in any department to help anybody. Thank you for any feed back please.

As a CNA, you should be able to observe much in any critical care unit or in the emergency room.

Each area of expertise will prepare you for that area. Working in a heart area will help you with critical care but not necessarily the ER. L&D is unlike any other area. MedSurg is a great place to get a good knowledge base.

New grads in my region are not hired for float pool; orientation doesn't work and not enough experience in any one department for any of them to feel comfortable.
Med-surge will let you see something of everything; you can go practically anywhere from there, if you don't know starting out where you want to be.
