I have some of the following books on hold. I would appreciate any advice on what books to buy. I am not in the nursing program yet (taking prerequisites) and just want to benefit myself so I am not asking from a curriculum angle, just what is more or less beneficial from your experience.
Thanks:

I would get this one for sure:
Can you please tell me where this list came from? Is it Amazon?
I am just wondering because I work as an SNA on 6west at children's hospital and I thought this was weird :
Since you are not in the program, I probably wouldn't get any actual textbooks because you are going to have to buy plenty of those.
I would get....an nclex book that has a review and pratice questions...maybe you can familiarize yourself with the style of questions., and definitely brush up on your patho, anatomy and medical terminology (a medical dictionary for sure)
Good luck to you.

I would look for the best A&P book that you can - Tortora was good.

This is a personal sale of books from someone who is already a nurse. I have Pharmacology now but the book is terrible, and also want to have some familiarity with the material before starting the classes so I will probably be buying a few textbooks.
Why specifically do you recommend the Silvestri prep book, is it better than the Saunders or Mosby's in your view?
Thanks
I have Martini already and like it though I think it's a little more basic than other, but it is very clear.
I am really looking for reviews of anything actually in this list though, but thanks.

Without reading that entire list, anything by the 'Made Incredibly Easy' nursing series (esp. patho) and a good health assessment book.

I would recommend the Pharm book by Richard Lehne, especially if you don't like your pharm book.
I hated my pharm book, and picked up an older edition of Pharmacology for Nursing Care and really liked it a lot. It made things much more clear than my text book.
I would also pick up some NCLEX review books to have on hand. I bought some older editions for much cheaper and think they are fine.
The rest I would probably wait until you get your reading lists. Don't want to waste too much money...

Lehne is what we're using for pharm and it's pretty good.
We're also using the Porth patho book and jarvis' health assessment. I really like jarvis and porth is pretty good as far as patho goes (just not my favorite subject :stone)
Can't say anything about the others since I haven't used them.

I LOVE this book and highly recommend it!! I like that it list the disease and then all of the possible nursing diagnoses for that particular disease right in the front of the book. I use it as a guide, first I come up with all of my diagnoses for my patient and then use this book to see if I am on point or if I omitted any possible diagnoses for that disease process. It is compact so it is easy to carry with me to clinicals. I have several care plan books and this has been the most helpful and saves me a lot of time.
