Where do YOU sit in class?

Our nursing classes are held in a multi-media lecture hall. The hall is video-linked to a branch classroom 45 miles away. We have 7 rows of 5 seats on the left and 6 rows of 5 seats on the right with a center aisle. The front row on the left is used by the instructors (we have 7 total) I sit in the aisle seat in the first (student) row on the left. What amazes me is that no one else sits in this row. Only three students sit in the front row on the right. It just amazes me that my fellow students would work so hard to get into our program (on average, 4-5 applicants for every freshman seat) and then sit in the back of the classroom during lecture! Where do you sit in your classroom/lecture hall and why?

4. There is much more of a sense of community in the back. The kids in the front are usually pretty anal retentive and competitive, while I find that when I sit in the back, there's discussion about the topic, and I get to know the people.

Truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy sitting in the back and like Amnesty said, that's where the community is really. Always cracking jokes (a bit noisy at times haha, but everyone loves it), just chilling in the back doing anything really (napping, gaming, browsing the internet lolz). No one really listens to the lecture the entire time without having to look at their phone or something. Sounds kind of dumb when you think about it how we pay $$$ for classes yet I'm in the back browsing FB or talking to friends. Why? Well most of the time it's because the lecture is plain out boring. Lectures for me get interesting when I don't understand the concept, then I start to focus; however, most of the stuff I understand. But then it's like, why even bother showing up? Well aside from attendance, just BEING in the lecture room and having the lecture going on whether or not it retains helps me comprehend the topics. I know for a fact that not going to lecture and just reading alone will not get you through this haha.

My class only had 20ppl in it with 4rows in each class so. I sat on the left side of the 3rd row with no one on either side of me. I would use the extra chair next to me to to put my feet/legs on to get comfy while listening to lecture. I always doodle in class bc I get bored easily and didnt want prof to see. I also like my space and can't stand it ended when ppl talk while I'm doing my best to focus.

Don't assume that someone isn't interested in good grades because of where they sit in class.

Silly/juvenile/judgemental when you think about it, don't you have something better to do with your brain power, like study?

First or second row. I have poor vision and don't wear my glasses in class. Not to mention, I kind of like being a teacher's pet. :>

I try to sit in the first or second row. I am a very visual person, and sitting further back provides sooo many more distractions (people seat-dancing, playing with pencils, windows, etc)! Of course I also find it very hard to sit still during lecture, so I am one of the people who is guilty of seat-dancing and probably distracting some people behind me...however, no one has complained ti me yet, so I won't worry about it until they do. Also, the instructors tend to learn the names, faces, etc of those in the front first, which can make it easier to speak up and ask questions, and helps remember you better when you go to them during office hours.

1. I wasn't being judgmental, I asking for understanding. Learn the difference.

2. Did you read the post above yours??

3. A bit defensive, aren't you??

I'm a non-traditional student and I always try to sit within the first couple rows whenever possible (I specified being older because another poster said that in their program the older students sit in the back). For me, there are fewer distractions up front, I see and hear better, and my recorder picks everything up better. I generally feel more engaged in the class up front.

I sat toward the back once in a review class and it drove me insane. I could see everybody's laptops. I could see who was chatting, who was texting, and everything else that was going on. I just found it more difficult to pay attention. I'm definitely a "front" student.

I always sit towards the front. I get distracted really easily during lectures, especially if the material being covered is not very interesting, so the fewer people I can see the better.
