Where to work in Montreal

Published

Hi everyone, thanks for reading my post!

I am new to Montreal and finally have CPN status from the OIIQ (yippee!). I'm just wondering where people work or have worked and what they can say about it. I'm particularly interested in the NICU and pediatrics. I know there are a few different NICUs and was wondering if any have apparent reputations about working environment and things like that. Also, I am Anglophone (learning French), so where might I be able to practice safely and efficiently without having too much trouble?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I forgot to mention cost of living.....

Rent is cheap as far as big cities go..... for instance it's way cheaper to live downtown montreal than Toronto or Vancouver. But it always depends on the area and what you are looking for.

Everything else I find pretty comparable.

Hi everyone, and hello to all the nurses here, I called OIIQ to ask for the application package.. how long does it usually take for them to send it to the person that requested it??? I am an IEN from Vancouver BC that passed the crne last october. I would like to apply for a nursing permit in OIIQ because I have a good chance to land a position in montreal. Your response will be very much appreciated. Thank you all, (",)

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PCVICU and peds oncology.

The answer to that depends on their workload at the time of your request. Bureaucracy moves very slowly at the best of times, so I would expect it to take 4 to 6 weeks at least.

owwww I see.. I've been waiting for 3weeks, so I guess I dont need to push the panic button yet?lol! :smokin: merci

lol.... mine took forEVER..... and when I received it it was addressed to me in Victoria but instead of British Columbia they put Vancouver. Hmmm ya, cause everything west of Alberta is Vancouver.

hey! Im looking into taking the health assistance and nursing program in quebec. im just wondering if anybody has any experience in a montreal hospital working as a lpn. im curious to know what your official title is. Are you considered an lpn or a cna??..i heard that they recently switched the title.. also any additional info and feedback on being an lpn would be great!

Have you thought about just contacting the governing college? A big part of nursing education is researching things for yourself and analyzing your collected data.

yes i have thank you. i have done TONS of research. But I would like to hear from professionals in the field. I beleive there is no better way to get an idea of a profession than talking to people who are in it...but I appreciate your help.

Well, why haven't they told you the "official" title?

Legally you are able to call yourself an LPN but I'm curious to know what title is used in the hospitals... I'm just looking for someone with some real life experiences as an LPN in Montreal...

Specializes in Medical unit and ICU.

I work in a major hospital. We only have RNs and CNAs. However I have also worked in a nursing home where they have RNs, LPNs and CNAs.
