Why do Filipino Nurses want to work in the US?
There's a lot of advantage and disadvantage of living abroad, one positive things that I could mention to you is the healthcare, here in Canada, at the age of 55, your parents will automatically given a citizenship which could give them a lot of benefits, free healthcare, pension ($$$$$) etc. which I dont think that the Phi. could provide for everyone. Of course, you would like to have that benefit for your parents right? In terms of money, I could say that $ will compensate in the cost of living, so the same thing with Phi. peso and the cost of living in the Phi. What I mean is that, you could get a meal here in Canada for $5, where in Phi. you could get a meal for 250pesos, which is the same if you compute it right? and the rest will follow.. The downside is that, your spirit will always be in your country. I am living here in Canada for almost 4 years now but I am very much comfortable living in my country and our culture. Have you had the chance to visit other countries? Let me know what you think, much thanks

First year student feeling down in the dumps
You can try volunteer opportunities.. there are some hospitals that accepts volunteers in the special area like ER and hemodialysis.. you might not assist all the time during the patient care but atleast you could start to feel the real world of this business

Working in Northern BC?
Hello shelly9, Saw your post and its very interesting.. I never had a chance to work in northern bc but like you, i was once had this very exact dilemma. i was offered a full-time position in the north and i was very happy that my resume and application was appreciated very fast. But there are lots of doubts, lots of "what if" questions and i know that by heart, i am not ready to relocate in a small town/community or a rural area... So i have decided to passed-up with the opportunity, and decided to stay in vancouver and hoping that other employers will call me soon, while doing my casual RN shifts. But.... "What if I like the place?" "Did I just throw a huge amount of payday away?" "Did I judge that town too early?" "What if I could provide my loved ones a more comfortable life by working in this place and I turn it down?" These questions are still in my head until now, lol! So my advise to you is to do your research about dawson creek. You can search the wiki, google or go to dawsoncreek dot ca and have a peak on what the town could possibly offer. You can also check some most recent videos of dawson creek at youtube dot com. If you have a facebook account, search the "Careers at Northern Health" page and you will be able to see some good photos of Northern BC there, and some info in the "wall section" of the page. If you are financially flexible, maybe you could sacrifice your "900$" to have a short trip there, to see the place yourself and the residents... and for sure you will be able to come up with the decision... At the end of the day, i think you will decide based on what you value in life. Do you value the city lifestyle, party, malls, nightlife, etc etc? or you can live without these things and already happy with your loved ones around you? Too bad that lower mainland was already overcrowded and tough when it comes to nursing competitions, but what can we do? it is what it is! lol! Hopefully I was able to give you an advice that make sense, lol! let me know what u think, peace!

I understand the stress, and u should fight that negative feeling with ur Burning Pride, dont let this exam beat u twice or thrice, there will always be a way to spank this exam's a**! lol!

MONTREAL VS BC Nursing- just for fun
Hello to all, If you are a RN that speaks an "ok" french, and you have an equally good job offer on both places, which place is better to work for a single R.Nurse money wise? should it be Vancouver or Montreal? how does the taxes in this places impact ur pocket? Dont think that I only work for money, helping a patient and seeing them recover with ur help is one of the best feelings in the universe, its just a reality that we got to have to reward ourselves too and money is a factor that should be considered, lol! let's start some friendly conversation here:)

Nursing in Canada?
Every province have their own standards of assessment but I think your case going to the CRNE will be pretty much straight forward coz you got ur BSN from the states. For employment, you can do some research about the nursing job market in each province and that could help you decide which place you would like to go. Just be patient and allow a year, or atleast 6months for the whole process, goodluck

CPNE failed by 2 points
Hi pnoytoronto, Its ok to request for a recount but it will take so much of the time, I dont know how long for them to send you back the result but that might cause you some dilemma for applying on the next scheduled exam... basically, the situation is gonna be like... the deadline for you to submit your application, payment etc etc for the next exam date is coming, but you are still waiting for the recount results.. Hopefully you will come with a wise decision
