Where are all the SVC students at? (spring 2015)

Published

I see a lot of post about people applying to programs at different schools all across the state, but I haven't really seen anyone post about applying to Skagit Valley College's nursing programs (they offer several).

I've applied to two schools: Everett CC and Skagit Valley College. The application process for each school is different, but SVC's was by far an easier process - even with this process being new to the school and all.

Though I'm really hoping I will get accepted to Everett because of the long standing history and the great clinical locations, I still want to get accepted to SVC as a back up. The way I see it is in the end as long as I have my Associates and an RN license, it'll all be the same come BSN completion time.

This is not to say that having a job sooner rather than later in a place I would actually like to work isn't also a factor. In fact, that's one of my biggest motivators for applying to Everett. I hear a lot of tell that you are more likely to get a job at some place you've done your clinicals, and EvCC does clinicals at most of places I want to work at.

But anyways.... Spring 2015 is only the second quarter in which the school is using the TEAS as an entrance exam as well as a points based system to quantify their students. There's a rundown below if you are interested.

SO, any SVC Students out there who use these forums?

If so, are you in a nursing program? Which one? Just taking your prereqs? Are you planning to apply to one of SVC's programs? Or are you just taking the prereqs somewhere closer to home? Are you just now looking at taking some classes and considering going to SVC?

Here's a quick run down:

  • 40 points: You need to have an 3.0 in your core sciences, and a 3.0 overall for prereqs. If you have that, then you get all 40 points. There is no part way.
  • 40 points: Teas. You take your overall adjusted score and times it by 40, and that's the number of points you get. For example, I scores an 86%, so I got 34.4 points in this category.
  • 20 points: This one is strange. I will link to the score sheet so you can see for yourself, but basically the only way to get all 20 points is by having a CNA license or 250 hours through an LPN program or working as an LPN. I have my CNA, and I personally don't think that taking the class and passing the test should count for more points that some of the other options that only get you 12, but I'm not the one who designed it.

I'm a student in my second quarter of SVC's nursing program! I don't really post very often but I used to like to read other's posts on getting into their programs - when the thought of applying didn't give me panic attacks lol

Hello Lucylyn! I too have applied for SVC for Spring 2015. My fingers are crossed! We only have a couple more weeks of waiting for the decisions to come in! My first choice is Seattle University (Fall 2015) and I have to wait until the end of March for that decision. The wait is driving me insane. Best of luck!!!

Update! I received my acceptance letter today! A friend received theirs too! I hope to see you at orientation!!!

That's awesome! Do you live in mount Vernon or Burlington. I have to check my mail. Iive in Oak Harbor, so it might come later.

Thank you! I live in Bellingham.

I got the congrats letter today. I got in! Just curious, what was your teas score?86 here

Congratulations! I had an 84 adjusted score.

For those of you that got accepted to SVC Spring 2015, could you please tell me your teas score and your total points out of 100 for your application?

This was my first time applying and I just got my rejection letter :'(I got a 75.8 adjusted score on my teas exam which gave me 30 points and a total of 90/100. guess that wasnt good enough...

I was told that Fall quarter had an average of 82/100 points for their accepted students, so I thought I had a good chance. Guess I will just have to study and retake the teas test for a better score...

Hi Ejmaggz! I'm sorry you didn't get in this time. It's so disappointing after working so hard. I have my CNA so with my TEAS score I had a 93.6/100.

I got an 86 Teas and 94.4/100 points for my application since I also had my CNA license. My friend got an 82 on her TEAS and 92.8/100 and she got wait listed, but guaranteed acceptance in the Fall. It's strange because I had another friend who also had an 82 TEAS, and everything else was the same... 4.0 GPA etc, who got accepted.

Hello Lucylyn,

Congrats on your acceptance! I understand how stressful it can be!

I just got accepted into Skagit for spring with an overall score of 92.8. (82% on TEAS test) As far as the person who got waisted till fall, Skagit uses GPA as a tie breaker. Good luck everyone! :)
