You can apply for a job now, but be aware that there is retrogression that goes into place soon, and you must have the I-140 and I-485 sumbitted by then, or there will be a delay for some months at the very minimum.
Are you definite about staying in Iowa? Am not aware of really any facilites there that are petitioning, it may be hard to come by.
Did you train here or overseas?

in retrogession you mean?
There will be a retorgression starting soon, unless the nurse is already in the US and has the I-140 and I-485 filed before the visas are gone, they will be stuck. Nothing can be done, espeically if they were born in a country that will be taking a direct hit, such as the Philippines, India, China, Mexico is being added, as well as a few other countries, not sure of specifics yet, but there are expected to be abotu 7 hit by it. All for the short term, then things will open up again, but only if visas are available from those for your country.
If the nurse is waiting for consular processing and is not in the final stages of getting the US Embassy interview with a date already assigned, they have an extremely slim chance of getting one of the current visas, especially from the Philippines.
in short, there will be a hold on the issuance of the visas for immigrancy?
Hi
Suzanne, thank you very very much again. Your study guide helped me to succeed. Actually I am a foreign graduate nurse from Sri Lanka. I am going to stay in IA, because my husband is working in an university here. I know couple of Sri Lankan nurses here got their greencards from work place. But they all took their BSN here in USA.
what are the 1-140 & 1-485 mean?
Can I apply for my visa screeen certificate now without a job on hand?

Form I-140: To petition for an alien worker to become a permanent resident in the United States. This form is filed on behalf of an alien, and not by the alien. http://www.uscis.gov/Graphics/Formsfee/Forms/i-140.htm
Form I-485: Application To Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-485.htm
You can apply for the Visa Screen certificate now at www.cgfns.org. It is issued after you complete the application, the CES credentials assessment and the NCLEX-RN exam. This is not related to having a job, but to immigrating.
yes, there will be. if you have not already been assigned an interview at us embassy in manila, you are affected by the retrogression. please take the time to do some reading here about it.
and if in the us; when the visas are gone, there will be no accepting of the i-140 and i-485 petitions by immigration as well.

Yes, you may apply for the VSC now, but be aware that if you did your training overseas, you will need to pass the seires of English exams before you will receive the VSC.
If you have trouble finding something there, please let me know. But get started trying to find an employer right away.
