Where are LPN's working besides LTC/Home Health?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hello,

I am wondering what kind of opportunities will be out there fresh out of school. I really, really, really dont want to do LTC. Its way to depressing for me...I was a volunteer for LTC for years and don't think I could work in LTC as a career.

Thanks!

Hi,

I have done lots of different positions as a LPN. Pediatric Urgent Care (lot's of fun), LTC (agency), Med/Surg (agency), GI lab, ER (adult and Pedi).

I have now settled into a nice M - F position in the Surgical Prep Unit, (our hospital's outpatient surgery center), I work 4 ten hour days, no holidays and no weekends! I still work prn in the ER.

It may take a few tries until you find what area is right for you. The ER is still my favorite, but it can take it's toll on you.

Good luck to you!

Currently in Tx there is a huge push for LVN's in Dialysis. There were 2 hired out of my graduating class (one of them me) to work as GVN's and then as LVN's when we pass our state boards. I have seen several other Dialysis Centers Utilizing them as well.

Some of the others I am aware of that are working are in, upper sclae Nursing Homes, Pediatric offices, there was one that got a job at a eye surgery center. Several in a hospital for the Med-Surge Floor, One went to work for a Urologist, she actually travels with him atleast one day a week. Medicare is hiring an LVN right now to do some auditing, I have seen a pharmaceutical company that is hiring one for a rep. There are ample places, you just have to know someone that can get you in. That is the major secret. Start contacting every place you are interested in and build a relationship with your contact. That will help alot.

Where did you go to school in Tampa? Were you hired right out of school?
