*bump* I hope this thread gets more replies! I'm considering Chamberlain & Thomas Edison State University (I got my non-nursing bachelor's degree from the latter), among other programs such as Duke & UoMaryland. I saw some warnings about for-profit schools but I'm not seeing how they're "so much more expensive" than more established schools. Chamberlain (some kind of association with DeVry, I'm not entirely clear on this) comes out to a little under $25K, compared to Duke which is over $36K and U of Maryland at over $52K. Cost, length of time to complete program, and reputation are my main concerns.
Look into some of the brick & mortar universities near you. I was surprised to find that one of the universities near me offered a MSN-Informatics totally on-line that was similarly priced to Chamberlain. You also have to consider the "extra fees" that the for-profit options tack on. Yes, Chamberlain seemed less, but add up the "hidden costs" and it's nearly the same. And, for me, I feel more comfortable knowing that if I need assistance, there will be someone near-at-hand to help me. Also, I feel that my resume will stand out a little bit more with my MSN from a well-known and respected area university.
I can sit for my informatics boards the day I graduate. From what I am being told, more and more places are going to be looking for educated and certified informatics nurses. especially in acute health care. I'm not saying that one won't be able to get a good job ,but here are a lot in my cohort that are working, but have been told they would be in better shape with the degree.

I would like to hear where you guys got your MSN clinical informatics degree from. I live in northern california and strongly considering Getting my msn Online. My Hospital is currently reimbursing MSN student loans and clinical informatics is my passion. I work in ICU and currently a superuser for our EHR and have been helping educate/train end user. Any inputs is much appreciated.🙂
