Where do you find ED New Grad Fellowships?

Published

Hi there,

I'm a somewhat soon to be new-grad and starting to think about my first job. I'm very serious about doing ER nursing but definitely feel like I need a lot more training before I should be allowed near a patient (accelerated BSN program is leaving my head spinning).

I'm in a market that's pretty saturated right now (rhymes with loston) and I'm willing to move for a couple of years to get a start. I'm just not sure where to look for fellowship programs. I know that there were some amazing ones in Boston within the last 10 years but not sure they are still around.

Is there a place where hospitals list their new grad training programs in one place? I'm confused where to look. I'm pretty much willing to relocate anywhere that has a decent music scene (my other passion) and where I can learn a lot.

Cities I've thought about:

Chicago

Baltimore

Austin

Nashville

New York

San Francisco

LA

But I'm open to any suggestions. I also like living in the country, but I think I'd learn more about trauma living in a city. Mostly I'm looking for a place where I'm going to be able to develop a really strong skill set.

So...where do I look? Monster.com, individual hospital websites?

Thanks!

I think Texas was still hiring, I'd probably start there. Look at the websites of hospitals and see if they have new grad programs. Good luck, it's saturated in many areas and new grad programs are often hard to find in any specialty. Getting into the ER right away might be difficult.

Children's National in DC has a new grad program for the ER. I believe it's very competitive and I don't know if they start it every eyar but they do have it

I would count Cali out but AZ is hiring alot of new grads - a lot of Cali new grads have gone there.

There is definitely a shortage of new grad positions available in Austin as well. You might have better luck in Dallas or Houston. Many of the big hospitals, Parkland and Baylor in Dallas, and Hermann or MDA in Houston, offer new grad positions in the ER. Good luck!

I applied for one of 20 available internship slots in the ED and Obs unit. One of the local hospitals is opening up a new 100 bed level 1 trauma center in September, and is hiring quite a few new grads. I'm hoping to hear something within the next few weeks. I'm in SW Missouri, and while it is competitive, I don't think it is anything like the bigger cities are experiencing.
