Do I need to put on gloves when I'm doing the following: Change bed sheets, Dressing pt, and Foot care? (I'm referring to the skills test.....not the real word)
Also, did u manually raise the bed or did you use a remote control?
My facility has a broken remote, so we have to turn the lever to move the bed higher/lower.

I had a manual bed for my exam so yes, had to crank that up and down.

I'm pretty sure the only one you NEED gloves for is foot care, but I wore gloves for any skill. They cannot fail you if you wear gloves. :)
And in the real world, I wear them all the time, because I deal with people who have all kinds of nasty stuff going on.

Are you sure? I could've sworn my teacher said we couldn't use it for everything because it makes the pt feel as if you're disgusted by them.. Just wondering..
You'd need them for foot care and you could use them for taking off soiled sheets. No need to put them on while putting on new sheets or dressing a pt.

Also remember that gloves do not ever replace hand hygiene.
as soon as you complete the task, you remove the gloves (usually in the room), and immediately clean your hands.

For testing purposes, you need them in situations where you may come into contact with fluids. If you can't remember if you're supposed to use them for a skill, go ahead and use them. It's true that in the real world you shouldn't use them for, say, feeding because it makes it seem like you're grossed out by them, but for testing purposes you will not be marked down for it. For testing, it's better to do too much than too little.
For example for peri care you need only two washcloths but I went ahead and used extra just to be sure I didn't miss when you actually are supposed to change out cloths. That is not a problem, but if I had missed changing cloths I would've failed. When it comes to testing it's better to be safe than sorry.

For skills test just use gloves when ever you think its necessary and as stated in the skills sheets on prometric.com For my test I had partial bath...I was so nervous I actually forgot to put on gloves when washing the manikin, they dinged me for it, I thought I failed but I still passed because it was part of indirect care in that case.
As for the bed...I left it in the low position. Why? Because once you raise that bed you better not forget to lower it to its lowest position possible because that's a safety issue and will be an automatic fail.
Gloves is optional for foot care in the "testing world". But if you do wear one, remember to take it off to apply lotion to the feet because it MUST be warmed up on your hand prior to applying to the foot. I suggest you download the prometric skills sheet and go by that because that is what you are tested on.
