When talking about your day

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Do you ever find that your family members aren't exactly thrilled about the details? I laugh at this because when I was a CNA I would come home and the first response was always "hope it was good please don't tell me the details" lol. What they don't want to hear about the four residents with bowel movements that got all over the bed? They don't want to know that the little dark spots on my uniform did not come from my lunch or any snack I ate? Or the fact that the dried stuff in my hair is not from any hair care company on the planet? I've pretty much learned that anyone not in healthcare does not want to know the details of what is done in healthcare.

Yea my husband feels the same way lol!!!

Specializes in LTC/Rehab.

Yes. My husband doesn't want to hear any graphic details about my day at work. In fact, everytime my seven-month old son has a poopie diaper, he feels like I shouldn't have a problem cleaning it up... since I allegedly do this for a living!!:uhoh3:

Specializes in Med-Surg/urology.

My mom is a nurse, so when I tell her about my day she sort of knows what I'm going through lol. But if I told anyone else, they're less than thrilled!

Specializes in 6 yrs LTC, 1 yr MedSurg, Wound Care.

This is so true!

My stories usually consist of what one of my residents with dementia had said today or a gripe about management. It either brightened my day or darkened it.

Poop stories are saved for my coworkers! Ha ha!

Most of the stories I share with my family are about cute or funny things the kids have done or said. They definitely don't appreciate the body fluid stories as well as my coworkers do, haha :D

My husband has banned "poop talk" from his immediate area. It cracks me up!
