When do you start applying for jobs?

Nursing Students General Students

I graduate with my ADN in Nursing this December and there have been a few job postings at the hospital I work as an intern at. Human resources there have told me that it is too early to apply. But will not tell me when a good time to apply is. :stone

There are two other hospitals an hour away from here with a lot of various openings. And I would like to know when to start. I don't want to be beat out by others also graduating, and I also don't want to apply to early and have prospective employers wondering what the heck. :imbar

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Good luck!

Most of the RN student that are about to graduate have jobs lined up about 2 months before graduation.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

You should start putting in applications about two months before graduation. Make sure you have at least one nursing instructor who will give you a reference. If you wait until a couple of weeks before graduation, the other graduates will have taken up any open positions.

Specializes in critical care; community health; psych.

I accepted a job offer from an August interview. I graduate in December.
