At my school, we have an account with our financial aid in it and after the first week, they take out tuition money, books, etc from your balance and then what you have left over is called the "net check." You can sign up for direct deposit, so it can go directly into your bank account, or you just wait until they send it out which is like a few days.
Mine should be in my bank account by tomorrow and I started on January 9th.
Ours are not disperssed until the add/drop mark. February 8th is the date they are credited to our account, however the school then has 14 days to "cut the check" so to speak. Generally its the friday after the add/drop date, in this years case it would be February 10th.
1st time borrowers have to wait an additional 14 days at my school
Also, if you have financial aid guarantee'd, see if your business office will authorize book vouchers...

It's been soooo many moons since I was in school last that I can't remember. Do you know when the pellgrants are disbursed?
