New Student needing some serious advice
Hello willie, I do understand about that being away too long. For a whole year too, that is just devastating. Might as well just live with your mom, because I know not seeing them for that long is out of the question.............lol Anyway, nothing is coming up on my end, but I'm not done yet. I do hope something will pan out. Keep your head up.

Just how many nurses from IL do we have here at allnurses?
Hi Suzziees, I think it's great to see people on here from our area too. A lot are from the very well known areas of IL, like Chicago.

When are pellgrants disbursed?
I feel the same way Jaysma. My school doesn't distribute ours until weeks after the semester starts as well.

Just how many nurses from IL do we have here at allnurses?
Hello all, I know this was posted so long ago, but I'm still new here and this was my first time seeing it. It seems mostly everyone is from Chicago and I loved seeing there were people around my area. I too am in southern IL (Alton). I'm glad to know we are representing on here too.

Tell me no!
You should not go back to drinking and smoking. First I want to say great decision. Quitting is one of the best things you can do. Do not restart no matter what. Like Future nurse said, check out all of your options. Maybe you will have to take a detour, but the point is getting there. I know how I planned to do it all is looking like a horrible rough draft. It may take me longer than I planned, but I want it and I'm going to make it work. God does have all of the answers. He is who I'm seeking in this situation and you should too. I will keep you in my prayers and it will be ok. Teanna

Passed the TEAS, but disappointed
I am not taking that TEAS test, but I do have to take the HESI like you Colorado. I am scheduled to take mine on Monday. Not really sure what to expect, but I'm going to go in running......:chuckle I have the study guide and I am studying like crazy. Like some of you others this is my only chance to take this test until the Fall. You should be happy Traci, you do get another chance. When you added your score up it did look pretty good, way to go........ . I'm not sure how long it takes to get the results of my test. It is online and all of their other online tests were scored immediately. That's a good and bad thing, but it does take away the guess work. So, when I do find out that I passed I will let you all know.

Hello, I'm not exactly in Belleville, but it's really not that far away from me. Not sure how far away, but I know it's less than an hour from me. Welcome to the area.

Why are you REALLY going into nursing? Honest answers please.
To be absolutely honest about this I would have to say that there are several reasons I want to go into nursing. I too have a family, so the most important thing for me is to make sure that I can provide for that family. Everybody knows that it takes money to do that. I also want stability, benefits, and job security. There are too many jobs out there that are not lasting. Second, I have always wanted to be in the healthcare field. I truly do love to help people. So, that would make for a great reason to choose nursing as a career. I don't want a job, I want a career. Third, I chose nursing because it happens to be a career choice that will always be in demand. We all know how the economy works. It's very topsy turvy so to speak. I need something that I can count on. Yes, the nursing home I may work at could close, but I could find another job in no time. I would tell anybody, when choosing your career and figuring out what it is you like to do, try to keep it in line with something that you believe would never be fazed out. Just about everything, if not everything, in the health field will be needed all the time. And finally, I chose nursing because I do believe that I will love doing it. It will make me happy to know that I am making a difference everyday and helping someone in some way. I do not believe that choosing any career for money is wrong. We all have to survive somehow and it does take money, like it or not, but outside of that there should be something that you like about it, especially in nursing. It can not just be for that sole purpose. Like I said I have a family to support, just so happens that I want to do nursing and they make quite a bit of money too. God bless you all! Teanna

Thinking of Nursing career
Hey there! I saw you in the chat room earlier. I can only give you my opinion. I really don't think it will be a problem. I mean, unfortunately you may run into a few bumps, but don't let it stop you. I've heard a few people talk about older people being in their nursing classes or even being at their jobs as grads, so I really think it will be ok. God Bless!

nervous butterflies?
I always get nervous. I sometimes don't even want to go. I don't know what it is. But like it's been said, once you get there everything is pretty much ok after. I'm extremely nervous because this is my very first time back in school since high school. It's been a few years. Anyway,my best to everyone.

Entrance Exam (hesi) TX
I am currently studying for the HESI entrance exam now. I take my test on Jan. 9. I live in IL. I don't know anything certain, but I heard it's just the basics. In the study guide it does have general material in it. I just hope that I can get a grip on A&P.

Any from Illinois?
I am new to this site and just found this forum. I live about 20-30 mins. from Edwardsville. Springfield is about 1hr. from me, so I would say Springfield is about 1hr and a half maybe 2hrs. from Edwardsville. You know that it too does depend on how fast you drive. These are are about speed limit times.

Live Chat Schedule - feedback needed
I think good times would be 5pm CST or anytime after 8pm CST. Also, good topics would be just getting started for the aspiring nurse, or a Q&A session with people that have gone through.
