Hello all. I will try to keep the story portion short and sweet and get right to the questions. So I was a Senior I nursing student in a BSN program. (I only had a semester to go.) I was not able to pass my pediatrics course and I was dismissed from the my program. So after many tears and moments of panic, I am taking charge of my situation. I am very blessed to have more than one option in front me and I plan to exhaust each one of them. I have two schools (an ADN program and another BSN program) that are very promising. I am also looking into going the LPN route by sitting for the NCLEX-PN. I was told by the S.C. BON I needed my school endorsement to be able to sit for the exam. Is this true for all states?
So my questions are:
1.) Do all states require school endorsement to sit for the NCLEX-PN?
2.) How soon would I be able to take the exam?
If anyone has been in this situation or currently in it, please do not hesitate to respond! Thank you!

Hi,
I do think that all states require the school's ok to test or else we all could have just signed up and tried to pass. :) From what I have read it is often easiest to re-apply to your school because I think it is hard to find a new one that will take any of your nursing credits. Best of luck to you.
Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, my school will not allow me to reapply there. But thanks!

I do believe you have to be endorsed in all states to sit for NCLEX-PN. If I were you I would go ahead and go BSN at another school, if it looks promising. See if they will except your previous credits and roll with the punches. Good Luck and never give up

hey ashfost, don't feel so bad, it happened to me too. could not pass the critical care lecture the 2nd time, 20 of us failed. where i live, la, the bon stated i had to go to a com. college to get my lpn, lucky for me the lpn program was in it's last semester and i got right in. took the nclex-pn pass with 85 questions. now i have to work a year, and will go back to get my adn, then my bsn. from the same damn school that kicked me out, so that way my credits will still be good. good luck you you.
Thanks yall. Yeah, giving up is definitely not in the cards for me. Glad this isn't such an uncommon problem. Its all a learning lesson. The only reason the BSN is my 2nd option is because I would have to take residency hours at that school. This would make my graduation date a little later than I expected. I was due to graduate this December and I was told with the ADN program, (if all went accordingly) I could graduate next May. So thats my first choice and the BSN second, LPN route being third. Thanks everyone!

I understand that there are only a couple states that allow RN students to take the NCLEX-PN test.

Quick update: I was able to get into the BSN program. I did have to do the residency hours here and I am graduating TWO YEARS after my initial expected graduation date, but I am now finishing up my Senior I semester and graduating in May '10. YaY! Words of wisdom to anyone else that finds themselves in that situation. First, cry, scream, throw your med-surg book across the room a couple times. Then take a deep breath, relax, and promise yourself "If I can't find a way, I'll make a way." and go from there. Keep telling yourself that and you'll find you won't take no for an answer and before you know it, you're done Hope this helps! God Bless!
