Hello to all,
I just recently passed my LVN board still waiting for my actual license. Wondering when I should jump back into school. My dream is to be an RN, I would like some experience as an LVN but how long should I wait to go back to school ? I plan on going into the LVN-RN bridge program at West Coast in Ontario, CA, the entire program is 18 months. Im tempted to start in Jan or Mid next year but is that to soon. Grrrr....Please Help... Would like some advice. Thanks :0)

ASAP. It will be easier if the content you learned is fairly fresh in your mind. The sooner you're an RN the better as you'll be able to make more money, too. You also won't end up like some of my coworkers who wanted to go back to school years ago but are still LPNs. Starting in June or whatever of next year would give you plenty of opportunity to get experience. If you get your license and a job promptly, even the couple couple of months until January should be sufficient to build up a decent level of comfort.
I'm in an LPN to RN program right now and have been an LPN for 2 years. I've had to make an effort to re-learn thing that I had down a couple of years ago when I took the NCLEX-PN. My experience has been somewhat helpful, but I believe expediency in becoming an RN is more valuable.
Congratulations on passing the NCLEX-PN.

Its been my experience that the longer you are out of PN school, the harder it is to go back...

I'd agree the sooner the better. I totally understand wanting to take a much deserved break from school but keep pushing forward...at least thats what I'm telling myself as I begrudgingly take another class toward my BSN, lol.
Congratulations on passing your boards!

i was an lvn for 8 years before i went back..........that was too long. i would suggest at least 1-2 years of experience and then enroll.

Our school is set up as a 1+ 1+ program. One year to do the LPN (once your prereqs are out of the way HA!) and one year to do the ADN. Most everyone continues with the ADN right away, but maybe as a part-time student vs. FT.

I say go for it ASAP! I got into a BSN program before I even took state boards for my PN. I'm always tired, but I know myself well and felt that if I didn't stay the course I would never get my masters which is the ultimate goal. By the way I turn 36 in 2 weeks. This is my second career. Good luck.

I admire you are now doing your BSN and here I am struggling with Pharmacology in LPN don't know If I will make it we have 3 more test left and Final and I am failed the last 2. My Goal was also going up to BSN but it seems the goal is gonna be very hard to reach.

Judging from the people I know from LVN program I think they tell me its beneficial to work for a year than go for your BSN, you will be so ready and i think the experience will be great, i came straight from 2 year pre rec and it seems like i had to get adjusted big time.
