When to buy Nursing books?

If I know for sure I'm going to need them, I order mine early since I get them cheaper online and I need that extra shipping time. Plus I can look through them a little if I have the time.

The sooner the better! I think you will find that the first week of classes you will already have reading assignments that need to be done. If you wait, there is also a chance the bookstore will run out--its tough to start out behind!

As soon as you have your text list because A) I'm required to have quite a bit read before my first class and B) earlier in the semester you can grab up used books that are in fairly good shape for a lot less cash.

I would get them ASAP....they usually make reading assignments before the first class.

The problem I have found is that the bookstore says to wait just a little more because the teachers have a tendency to change their book orders right before class starts.

Has this happened to anyone? I just don't want to lose money on a book I don't need. I do however plan to buy them at the very latest the week before classes begin.

This is going to be my first semester of nursing school also. I decided to start purchasing my books the minute I bought my syllabus. I have 12 required texts and 4 textbooks that will help me out....at least I think they will. And everyone is right, I have quite a few reading assignments that we have to have read before we even step into the classroom.

My school starts on the 16th and I bought my books yesterday. It's better to go ahead and be prepared for the first day of class.

Get your list and shop now! :) Check out the list and if you order over the internet like Amazon, Barnes and Noble--find out the lowest price. With school terms starting, some places sell out or are awaiting delivery.

I agree with the majority, buy soon! I bought all of mine (used) through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Almost all of them were like new (except for some light highlighting). Great prices. Good Luck!!

Hey everyone,
When are you going to buy your books for school? We can get a booklist from the school right now. But, since we don't have orientation until the Friday before classes starts I'm not sure whether we will need them right away or not.
Can anyone share their experiences from their first year of Nursing School?

The first semester I bought my books in the begining of August (class started at the end) and I got home opened all of them and just sat in the floor with over 600 dollars of books all around me and FREAKED!!!! but now they are like old friends (or sometimes enemies haha). Just wanted to say about the optional books ask you instructors or search the sylibi to see how much you are going to use before you buy. I have 2 books that we used (was told to read a small section 2-3 paragraphs) ONE time and the material was covered in her lecture. These two books were a total of 85 bucks and I sure could use that money now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
