When to apply to nursing school?

Published

I am currently attending a community college working on my pre-reqs for a BSN. I have 2 semesters left before I will be considered 'core complete' and was wondering when to apply to nursing school? I know there can sometimes be wait lists so how far in advance do I apply. 1 year? 6 months? Also how long are the placement tests (TEAS/HESI) good for?

I'm sure most of this could be found through google but I figured it would be smarter to ask here in these forums.

thanks in advance.

At the schools I am applying for the TEAS is good for 18 months from your last test date to the day you apply, and you can take it 2 times. I have heard that some schools it's only good for a year.

Only one school near me has a waiting list and I have a friend who applied in June and just got an email 2 weeks ago saying she was in. She was told the wait list was 12-18 months so I think they had a rash of people who didn't have their applicatons filled out correctly. This school requires you to get your LPN first then your RN and it's only a waiting list entry type of school (meaning everyone who applies, and has applied correctly and filled out everything completely and done all the prereq work, will eventually get in).

The other schools around me only let you apply at certain times for certain quarters so it depends on when you'd be done with all your prereqs. If you don't get in at that time then you need to reapply for the next entry date, and pay again of course.
