Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.
I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...
I saw an interview on the Oprah show not so long ago with the real Ghost Whisperer, the person who's life experiences with the spirit world has and does happen. This has totally convinced me that this is a very real thing.
I also believe that sometimes when we dream about our dead relatives, that they're trying to communicate with us. Ex. My mother was not the right kind of mother to me at all. She tried to apologize to me for the things she did after I left home. I half-heartedly forgave her, but when i gave myself to Christ, I forgave her completely.
I now very often dream about her, and we are close, and we are having good times together.

Ya know, I really wonder if there really is a place under that village.
Keep a notebook by your bed. Will help if you write down your dreams.
Never know when you may get a message :)

Fran, What village? I didnt see the show can you tell me what you mean- this stuff fascinates me.
Bump.
This morning around 0330am, I went to work out in the staff exercise room on the alleged haunted 4th floor. I've been told others have seen figures of a little girl and an elderly woman running around up there. I haven't seen or heard a thing, however, I did have a strange experience up there today. I using the treadmill for about 10 minutes then distinctly remember that I pushed the stop button so I could get some water. (My machine came to a complete stop). I then got off, got some water and decided to use the elliptical machine next to it. I was just telling the fellow RN in the room with me, that I feel really comfortable working out in there after hearing all the ghost stories. Just then the treadmill started up. We didn't panic, just looked at each other and finished our work outs. We are hoping it was just a computer glitch or something, because that really weird.
This tread should be should be made a sticky!

Ok. I started to read this thread about 2 hours ago. I have not been able to stop. It is now 9:56pm and I really need to go to bed...but maybe not to sleep? I figured I would click on the "last" button to see how many pages there are, I am on page 14. I guess I will be reading this thread for a few days as I see at least 114 pages!!!!! I have a couple of my own, the first is in an older LTC that I worked 3-11 as my first job out of RN school (23 yrs ago). I worked a double and of course the conversation with the other night nurse was ghost sightings. She said that there was a nurse that would patrol the hallways at night, in 40s or 50s style uniform, going in and out of the rooms. This home was an older home, first built in the 40s, but the wing I worked on (and was on that night) was only 1 year old. The nurses on the older wing also would see her. She was only seen from the nurses station if no one else was on the hallway (nurse or aide). If you got up to check, she would disappear.
The other is the last LTC that I worked at. The building started as a small, one story 32 bed facility, built in the 50s. After much construction in the late 90s and early 2001, there was now a sprawling 2 story assisted living facility with a small third story long-term care unit. There were was one bed, 314B, that we called the death bed. In the 2 years that I worked there every patient that was in that bed would die within a month or so. EVERY ONE. Whether the patient was very infirm and near death or was very well and no where near death. Even a couple of very healthy patients who were in the unit for short term rehab and had very little wrong with them. We were reluctant to place anyone in that bed...but at times joked about putting someone there when they would get on the very last thread of your very last nerve. The ironic thing about that room is the patient in 314A has been in that bed since the unit opened and is 101 years old.
And about talking to long lost loved ones just prior to death...The reason I no longer work at that last LTC facility (and as I re-read my post the reason I am saying patient and not resident) is I now work in hospice. In the past year that I have been in hospice I have seen many people die, and many of them talk to long lost loved ones. I also saw this many times in long-term care. I count myself fortunate that I have not seen the black spirit...I truly believe that that is the grim reaper coming to take their soul to hell. I know people who have seen it and they say there is an awful feeling when it is around.
"I work in a LTC facility, and the strange things always happen on the night shift (around 3 a.m.)!
This was posted 10-3-05 (!) but I have to respond. I have been told that 3AM is the "witching hour", the most powerful time of the night for spells and the time that spirits are most active. Why 3 and not midnight I have no idea. I am very interested in paranormal activities and most of these posts are very interesting, except for schroders_piano post about the possession...that has freaked me out for 2 days...and will probably continue to. I copied and pasted it and sent it to my sister (not a nurse) as I am sure it will freak her out too. Misery loves company!!!

My Grandma was a nurse for over 45 years having started out nursing with the Army in WWII.
She later became a Sister on Post-op wards and worked a lot on the night shift.
She told me that one morning she was approached by a Junior Doctor who said "Oh Sister, Mrs. --- seems much better this morning."
My Gran looked at him and quite calmly told him that Mrs.--- had died during the previous evening.
The poor doctor had to be taken to sit down, she said she'd never seen a person become so pale so quickly!!
