Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.

I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...

Why, Oh why do I read these things so late at night??

Thanks for sharing your stories!

Not exactly a nursing ghost story but my best friend who I was living with at the time and myself were painting the house and he yelled for me to "come here quick". He was painting the outside of the bedroom door at the time. There were very small hand prints all over the door, he's 6'2" and I am 5'11" and there were no children around. I tried to upload a picture but its too big. You can clearly see the hand prints though.

bump bump, love these stories!

A pt told me she knew that her baby would not live even though she had an emergency c/s for distress. I asked her how she knew. She had seen a family member in the hallway going to the OR that had recently died and they told her

they would take of the baby, not to worry.

Did the baby die? Was she right?

As I said in my post, I was standing in the room when this happened. The rose petals just started floating down out of nowhere. It went on for a little while and then they stopped.

Seriously, you should have notified the Vatican--you still should. Are there other witnesses? She should be a Saint. I'm Catholic and that is a miracle, without a doubt. Things DO NOT materialize out of thin air. It just does not happen, unless it is a miracle performed by a Saint. Please, PLEASE would you notify the Vatican or a local Priest about what you have seen? It is so, so important. You say this has happened more than once? Even more reason to notify your local Archdiocese. If you tell me your nearest large city, I will look the number up for you.

Ok, I have one kind of Ghost story to add, but it didn't take place in a hospital setting so I hope it's okay to add it here. In my house, we hear someone come in the front door all the time and walk around upstairs. We think it's one of the kids coming home sometimes, but when the doors are all locked we know it can't be, so one of us will go up and look around. No one is there. It freaks us out. My teenagers have seen shadows of people walking down our hallway upstairs, her friends have seen it too. My husband and I have seen it downstairs. One night I was watching TV and saw what I thought was my daughter walk through the hallway as I was sitting on the couch. I thought "What is she doing up so late on a school night" and I waited for her to come out of the laundry room to give her a good talking to. Well, I waited and waited and she never came out so I went to see what she was doing... and NO ONE WAS IN THERE. I about pee'd myself. Because I KNOW i saw someone go in there. That freaked me out and I couldn't go to sleep that night. ------------Second Story------- My husband's son died March 2004 and this was extremely traumatic for our family to say the least. My husband has grieved so horribly since that day. I talk to our son and I asked him to give us a sign that he was okay, so I asked him something very specific, I had a rose bush that was completely dead, you could snap a branch off and it was dry as a bone. I asked him bring roses all over that dead rose bush as a sign he was happy and okay. I told my husband of what I asked of our son and let me tell you one month later that rose bush was over flowing with roses!! I cried and cried, but I got my answer! Another thing he did was one morning I was getting his little brothers ready in the morning and the way our downstairs is set up you can see the reflection of the living room from the hallway pictures glass. As I was walking from the badroom into the hallway I saw a reflection of a man in the picture glass and it startled me and I got scared thinking there was a man in my living room. When I looked closer I saw it was my husband's son. I ran into the living room and there was nothing there. I called my husband at work and told him what I saw. He's a big skeptic about such things and just brushed it aside. Hours later we were notified that his son's mother had committed suicide. I think he was there to warn us or something. I don't know. But I know what I saw, and my husband knows that I called him that morning that I saw his son in our living room and we were notified that afternoon that his ex-wife had killed herself. ***shudder***

For those who haven't seen this ... BUMP!

I have a few but they haven't happened in the hospital setting, really. When I was in nursing school, I lost my father to pancreatic cancer (January 14, 2004). I didn't expect him to make thru the end of 2003, but he did make it thru the holidays at least. He died early a.m. (around 0500) that Wednesday. He and my mom lived about 3 hours away from I live. I had spent a few days with him the previous week, said my goodbyes, and came back to the Gulf Coast to start my second semester of nursing school (I couldn't stay and watch him linger :o) My mom called me early the a.m. he died and told me. I went to school as usual (trying to have some normalcy to my day), and drove to my mom's late that afternoon. As I was driving from my mom's house to my mother-in-law's house (where I was staying....my mom and I don't get along), I drove thru the WORST patch of fog you can imagine. I missed the turn to my mother-in-law's neighborhood!! It was eerie, but I swear I think it was my dad!! I had chills go thru me when I drove thru the fog. It scared the h*** out of me!!

Second story: The 1st Xmas without my dad (2004), I was feeling very blue and on Xmas Eve I sent an e-mail to a cousin of mine saying "I wish my dad would send me a white Xmas to let me know he's ok and thinking about me". On Xmas day, later in the afternoon, it started to SNOW!! I was ecstatic and crying. We don't get much snow in MS (especially on the Gulf Coast!). It was 30 degrees outside but I went outside and played in it with my son!! We had so much fun!! I don't care what anyone says, I know my dad had a part in that.

Third story: My mom had surgery (electrophysiology study for atrial fib) in March 2005. She got really upset right before they took back to surgery, so my sisters and I said a prayer with her and asked my dad to watch over her. I got really upset after they wheeled her into surgery (I don't get along with her well, but I wasn't ready to lose her too). I went to the restroom to wash my face...put my elbows on the sink and buried my hands in my face. The water faucet turned on by itself!!! I looked up at the ceiling and told my dad, "ok, I know you're here...please watch over her and get her thru this". Of course, after saying that, I looked back down at the sink and saw the faucets were those automated, touchless kind...but (AGAIN!) I know it was my dad. My mom came thru the surgery with no problems ;)

Last story: (sorry this is so long!!)..last week on the way to work... I am going on my 4th shift in a row (not common for me..usually do just 3, but picked up an extra shift). Anyway, on my way to work, I was tired and I got to thinking "watch us have a code today" Then, as soon as I thought that, I drove thru the worst patch of fog (AGAIN!!...what is it with me and driving thru fog?) Once I got thru it, I thought, "that was weird" Sure enough, had a pt brady down on us, coded her, sent her to the cath lab for a pacemaker (frequent CHF'er, on Dobutrex drip, overweight, COPD, 20% ejection fraction on admit), and then she went to ICU. Of course, during the code and even after the code I didn't think about what I had thought on my way to work!! BUT, when I got home and was telling my husband what happened, it hit me!! Gave me chills :uhoh21:

Just this week we were sitting in a staff meeting....talking about the sudden death of one of our employees and upcoming funeral....as we were in the middle of discussion the lights subtly flickered on and off...I looked around the room at all the faces of the attendees and saw one had taken notice...today I asked him if he remembered it....he said....Oooooh yes I did..that was creeeepy odd.

Yup I have had that happen numerous times and have numerous stories...I truly believe there is more than we will ever know going on...and that many attempts are made daily by people who have passed on to show us that.

Oh my gosh, I used to work at this trauma center in texas on the 6th floor. The hospital was old. Anyway, I worked night shift at this hospital as a floor tech while I was going to nursing school. One night, there was this young lady on our floor dying of AIDS. She had contracted HIV through her boyfriend who had been using IV drugs. She was bleeding and was receiving countless blood transfusions but she was losing the battle. At about 2 am, I heard her yelling out for someone.....anyone. I went to her room and she said "whose kids are those"? She had been an alert and oriented patient so I was concerned. I asked "What kids"? "The little kids with the blue jean shorts, the blonde kids", she said. I informed her that it was 2 in the morning and that there were no children allowed on this floor at night. She appeared confused staring at an empty space on the wall and pointed at what she said was the children. She died a few hours later. More on this story later:chair:
