Nursing is a profession that often involves long lonely night shifts in eerie hospital wards. It's a perfect breeding ground for ghost stories. These stories often involve sightings of apparitions, strange noises, and unexplained events that are said to have taken place in hospitals, hospices, and other healthcare settings. Some of these stories are believed to be based on true events, while others are purely fictional. Regardless, they continue to captivate and intrigue both nurses and non-nurses alike - providing a spooky glimpse into the world of healthcare after dark.
I know you have seen and heard freaky things. Share your nursing ghost stories...

what does this feel like
well, when it happend to me I was taking a shower and I knew I was the only one there. It felt like someone with really cold hands just put their hand in the center of my back and pushed on it, not hard, but you could definately feel it. Kinda hard to explain I guess.
Thanks for the links.I have enjoyed all of these stories so much...........

I love it!!! :rotfl:
Betty was sitting up talking lively on tuesday morning. Vivian, a very experenced nurses aid asked who she was talking to. Ed and 2 other people were there, she said. Vivian tryed to tell her Ed had died years before. Betty said no he's right there and pointed. She was so convincing Vivian turned to the chair to look. She was so convincing Vivian said "Has he come to get you?" and Betty answere "Yes". Betty still got up for breakfast and was sitting in the hall but moving the wheel chair the fastest I have ever seen her.
" I'v got to go!"
"Where are you going? "
"Home."
"But Betty you live here."
"No I don't, Mary, I'v got to go home!"
Betty went home the next day. She had been with us 11 years. She had a private room with her name on the door which she locked when she left. I will watch for her call light every afternoon at 2:30, and through the night. I'm sure we will have a visit or two.
Side note: The daughter in law said this had been a wonderful experience. Everyone streaming in to say their good by to Betty and also to share their favorite stories about her. Then she thanked every one for their wonderful care for Betty. She met people she had only heard about by name, "Oh you are going to school to be an RN. Betty has told me about you and you'r family." How extraordinary, to be part of such a pleasant joyful peaceful uplifting experience. How uplifting to be so apreciated!
This is my first post. I am going back to school in january to start my pre-req's to get my RN so I am still at least 3 years away from being a nurse.
I have been reading this thread with such interest. Wanted to bump it for any more additions because I don't want it to end
One thing I have realized while reading this thread is that I am going to try and get on the day shift since most of this seems to happen in the middle of the night...LOL :sofahider
jillie bean-you're sure right about the "mother" thing. i've seen it before and even the first time i saw it with a patient it freaked me out a little because i knew what was going on. i've also noticed the same with patients who are calling out or looking for a long-deceased husband or wife when they never have before.
[I worked in ltc for years, lot's of dying going on.
2 warning signs:
1. the facility cat starts favoring a certain resident, sleeps on their bed or chair, seeks them out.
2. the resident sarts calling "mother, mother"

Oh, this is just TOO freaky. Wow, you wouldn't catch me visiting in that house very often when the ghost wanted to "play."
Definitely scary...:chair::sofahider

LOL..I know..like I said I must be weird! The ghost has been pretty quiet here lately...nothing much going on. It did turn the tv on me the other night when I was over there but it was kinda funny. I was watching Cops ,I think it was ,while I was waiting for my boyfriend and his lil boy to come back from his moms and trying to do my home work. I was looking over some anatomy notes and the tv turned to Dr G medical examiner...I guess he has a sense humor :chuckle
I work in a ltc facility and we have had numerous reports from pts that they have seen a little boy. This boy comes in their rooms, turns their call lights on and off, throw things on the floor. This facility used to be an orphanage!! Also there are stories of a oldfashioned nurse in the whole white dress and hat, would be seen going down the hall late at night doing her bed check and would go into someones room and stay there for a couple minutes if they were really sick or about to die. Well I guess one aide seen her awhile back and refused to go down that hall for a week, the persons room she went in just came back from the hospital still really sick.:uhoh21:
This wouldn't happen to be a ltc facility in Wyoming...would it???? Darn near identical story to where I used to work... :chair:
Maybe the powers that be, can stick this topic to the top of the page. :)

Since my dad died my mom has thought she heard his voice at night and one time he told her "hurry up get up" My mom is diabetic and she jumped up and found her sugar was dangerously low and she needed to hurry up and eat something. She thought dad was warning her because she could have went into a coma if her sugar was much lower. One day dad was on my mind really alot and I went shopping. When I stepped out of my car there was a name tag on the ground where I parked that said "Hi my name is Paul" That was my dads name. I thought it was a sign from him or something. Also my dad always liked to watch the channel on TV that plays the old music. When he first died our Tv kept going to that channel when we were in the middle of watching something. This is no lie, it really happened.

I have one. When I think about it, it makes me laugh. When I was tending bar for a living, one of the places I worked was very old. It had an apartment next to it. And when I got my second divorce, I moved in. Being a customer for a long time, then working there, I knew a lot of the "old timers". Our dear friend "Charlie" passed on, he loved that bar, got married in it.Weird things started to happen, and we lost a lot of bartenders. After the police came after hours several times, we had to UN-PLUG the jukebox. Many a nites, I would be lying in bed, and the juke bok would come on..LOUD. I would just have to yell.."Charlie it's been a long night. I'll see you in the morning!" And most of the time it would go right off. I talked to Charlie all the time when I was there. I wonder if he likes the new owners? They turned it into a coffee house!

Betty has come back twice. Her room is still being cleaned and painted, the call light has gone on twice right after dinner. That's Betty asking to be put to bed. But day shift does seem to have less insidents, or we ignore them more. :chuckle

I dont have any ghost stories while I was working somewhere, but I do have one about a ghost in my boyfriends house. When we first started dating, he told me he had a ghost in his house and every now and then it would act up and do different things. I never really believed him until one night when he had his little boy and me and his boy had my boyfriend in the hallway tickling him. We got him on the floor and he started saying help me help me in a kidding way. All of a sudden something moved me about 10-15 feet back into his bedroom. His little boy and him just looked at me funny and he asked if I believed him now that he had a ghost...I sure do now! Talk about a strange feeling! The ghost has been pretty quiet here lately though, I've gotten used to it doing different things like turning the tv channel or putting its hand on you while your taking a shower and your the only one there. I think it's kinda cool, guess i'm weird
