What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I took care of a man the other day named Neptune.

I once heard about some Thai refugees, whose names were about 20 letters long, who had a baby and named him Ronald Smith.

He was their baby; they could name him whatever they wanted.

We once had a mentally ill pt name her child Buddha Armageddon....No, I'm not kidding. And suprise, the next year she had another child and named this one Dios Todo Poderoso....which means "God Almighty" in spanish......I'm not sure if any of these actually made it on the birth certificate but yikes!!!:uhoh3:

syphillis (si-phill-is) and gonorrhea (gon-or-ah) are right up there with "lemonjello" and "orangejello" ...............

oh dear........my husband just read to me from the newspaper about a young (25 year old) local woman who is being charged in connection with the near-drowning death of her 3 year old daughter in a bathtub while mom watched american idol - and the poor child's name is "sirius" - like the constellation, or the radio service.........btw, mom says the prosecuter's story on what happened is not right, but she's not telling anyone her version because she's not being paid for her story by anyone in the media...........and she has 3 other children, ages 1, 5 and 7............poor kiddos, no matter what their names are.......

Saw this in the ER a few days ago.... mother named her two children (one was 29mos the other was 18 mos) The older boy was Dukey... yup, Dukey.... the little girl's name was Tommygirl, spelled just like that... I was amazed, until I saw mom :) By the way, she referred to her daughter as "Daughter." Perhaps she wasn't in her right mind when she named them???? perhaps???? I know, I'm terrible... but I just can't help myself sometimes.

There is a couple at my church who are emigres from Togo, and last year they had twins, a son and daughter, Their middle names are their native language's words for "God is great" and "God is good." The first names are English-language names.

:wink2:

Oh, I forgot to mention I have a weird name myself. My name is Nachole (pronounced "nicole")

I saw in the newspaper that a local couple named their son Jericho. I wonder what their favorite TV show is?

Thank goodness, their favorite show isn't Ugly Betty!

I knew a guy in college whose first name was Duke. Don't know if anyone ever called him "Dukey" though!

I also have an older female friend whose name is Tommie. She was not named after Hilfiger!
