What's it like in Phoenix?

Published

I've been lurking a lot on these discussion boards. I really love this site! Anyway, I start my program at Southwest Skill Center in Feb. (Anyone here go there or went there?) My plan is to do the first part of the program (LPN) and then go onto finishing the ADN through any MCC school that can get me in the quickest anywhere in the valley!

Anyway, my question is what is the nursing shortage situation like here in Phoenix? I'm seeing that in other places in the country it's actually hard to find a job and there aren't shortages in some places. I keep hearing that we do indeed have a severe nursing shortage in the valley. Is this true? How easy/hard is it to find a job (LPN and RN) after you are done with school?

Thanks!

i havent lived here that long but i will tell you that my sister-in-law is an LPN here in Phoenix and she got a job right away and after working for less than a year she is up to $20/hour which seems pretty good to me for an LPN that just started. From what I can tell from the job boards at the local hospitals, they seem to be in demand still. I have heard that California has a major shortage and the pay is good, but until I graduate with my RN, I am stuck in the Phoenix desert! Good luck to you.

You will have absolutely no problems finding a job in Phoenix.

Phoenix is great!! I travelled across the U.S. for years, I liked pretty much everywhere I have gone. However, when I got a 13 week assignment in Phoenix, I fell in love with it here. I bought a house about 6 mo. ago. There is an incredible shortage for nurses. Pay is awesome. I have travelled with a few different registries but I have found Maxim Healthcare to be the best. If you come down I highly advise you join up with them. Best wishes, and Good Luck!!

There is no such thing as a job shortage in just about any feild in Phoenix. The Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale has summer "intern" programs for high school senoirs hoping to promote some of these kids into the medical feild because they, and other hospitals, are so increadbly short-handed. If you look on-line at Arizona Daily Star and THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC classifieds. There are a gazzillion jobs in the medical feild. Good luck.
