What's In Your Pocket?

wanting to hear from you first year nurses about what you carry in your pockets and why, what could you not live without. I know I need a good watch, stethescope, hemastats, ............what else?

my pen is in my hair

my notepad in my right bra cup

car key in left bra cup

work keys hanging off my belt loop and in my left pocket

micropore on cord that work keys are on

mobile phone (if upstairs) in my left pocket

watch pinned to right side of shirt

money for coke in shoe.

Just my opinion, but having to stick your hands in your bra and socks while at work is gross.

Our staring out pockets al seem very alike but does anyone else find that after a long shift you pockets are filled with a assortment of debris- syringe caps, empty vials, misplaced pills, random notes, and every now and the partialy filled blood tubes?(yuck). so far no stool spec., or resp. cultures but I'm still working.

Two pockets. I'm freaky and separate things into two groups, and always expect to find the stuff in the correct pocket.

Too funny! I thought I was the only one. 2 pocket kinda girl...right one =scissors,2x2s,alcohol wipes,bandaids,penlight,pen; left=gum,change for pop machine, carmex:) Very definite deliniation as to what goes where:)

the bra and shoe things are only grabbed on my breaks. The lockers are on the floor below us and there's never enough so I leave my bag in my car 2 floors down.

Ahh, it makes a little more sense... having a locker that's not close is just really useless.

I know but we renovated and I'm in the new section and they didn't really see the use in putting in lockers for like 2 staff.

plus I can't hear the phone when I'm in the other end of the wing so if it rings and it's an emergency they call my mobile and if the s**** hits the fan I can ring downstairs to the RN in charge on my mobile or call 000

Two pockets. I'm freaky and separate things into two groups, and always expect to find the stuff in the correct pocket.

Right pocket: two pens, narc keys, lotion, fingernail clippers, scribble paper/pad.

Left pocket: penlight, scissors, hemastats, alcohol wipes, electrode pads. If I have a rubber band on my wrist it's from the charge paper from some bag of fluids, and the paper wound up in the left pocket. Rubber band is to remind me to do something with the paper.

Watch on wrist, steth around neck... heaven help me on the day I wear the jacket with four pockets, then stuff winds up in all the wrong places and I can't find any of it.

Wow, talk about organised! I might go to work with 2 pens but end up with none. I have had to attach my watch to my ID badges, or I'd lose that too.

RN notes - I have it on my PDA. I also have 5 minute Clinical Consultant, my drug guide, and lots of others. But RN notes is really nice.

Left Cargo Pocket - paperwork

Right Cargo Pocket - scissors, 2x NS flush, cardholder with ID & certs

Mini Pocket - tons of alcohol wipes

also have a watch, drug book, critical care reference book
