What's the going hourly rate for RNs in LTC in the USA?

Published

I've been considering long term care as an RN. How much can I expect to make per hour in the USA?

Thanks for your responses! :)

In Indiana I made $20/hr as a new RN and after 2 years made $25/hr but of course I was the MDS Coordinator. I am now in Florida and was just offered a job making $20/hr which is a cut but I am going to be a staff RN...which is not too bad but I am use to making a certain amount of money bi-weekly. Thinking of moving to Florida due to the new laws regarding minimum staffing levels there. :) (I wish). I work in an intermediate for profit LTC facility. I have 50 residents and two CNA's, occasionally just one CNA! I think this ratio is way too high!:angryfire I work non-stop, no breaks, 5 min lunch every day! It's getting old!

Just curious if you were aware of the staffing level laws, and have you noticed a difference there? Indiana has miore nursing homes than any other state, and I know why. It's the lousy laws that allow operators to work with very slim staffs, and pay on the low end. They are really starting to fill positions with QMA's instead of nurses here too!

It seems the nursing schools are graduating more nurses, companies use and abuse them, and when they leave the profession, new ones get off the never ending ferris wheel, and the party continues. I wonder if it's different in Hospital nursing? I hope so.

The facility I left in Indy did understaff alot and boy did it piss my off. I have went on several interviews since moving to Florida and let me tell you...They can not be understaffed or they will get dinged. I was very happy to here that but I did not know of the new law here in Florida till I went to a couple of interviews and found out. That was a perk in itself.

California... RN starting salary in a LTC Facility is $27.

We only have 54 beds, 2 RNs at night, 2 LVNs and 2 CNA.
