What is your work schedule like?

what is a typical weeks work schedule like? Is it more often a forty hour week or much more?
what time do you start and end your day? is it ever an 8 hour day or is it more common to work 10 or 12 hour days? how much vacation time do you usually take each year? Can you schedule a random day off if you need or want it or is it a big hassle? How are weekends and holidays handled?

There are other threads on here with CRNAs individual schedules, but in general it really just depends on where you work to what your schedule is like.

Monday - Friday 7AM-3PM. No, you are not guaranteed to leave at 3PM. Usually closer to 4-5PM, but you do get to leave early sometimes. Of course there's OT for 40+ hours worked. Weekends are optional where I work, but you get paid more to work them. You usually have PTO that you can use for personal days off. It's only a big hassle if you abuse the privilege I guess. Holidays are also handled on a rotational basis but you can easily have someone cover you. You get holiday differential at most places, so it's a good time to make some extra money.

I am scheduled for 4 10 hour days that usually start around 06:30. Some days are as early as 05:30 depending on early OR starts. So the schedule is loose at best. We can generally get out on time because we have a scheduled second shift of CRNAs and another shift that starts mid-day and ends at 21:00. There are also 3-4 12 hour shifts per day. But being a level 1 trauma center, I have been told in the past that there has been no one to relieve me so I am there for the duration. That comes with the job and I expect that to happen. That is part of what you get when you sign on for the profession. We also don't do weekends because we have a group of staff that work 7 10 hour days on then off for 7 days. So good scheduling has eliminated our need for weekends and call.

4 x10's plus call from home every 3rd weekend. Holiday and weekend calls are 16 hours/day.

When you (CRNA) have to work at say, 6:30AM, do you prefer to wake up two or three hours early to ensure you are wide awake and alert when your shift starts, or do you tend to wake up later in the morning, head to work semi-groggy and wake up as you go about your day?

Not sure why it takes anyone 3 hours to wake up. I'm up at 5:30, out the door at 6, and in the OR at 6:30 ready to go. And I don't drink coffee.

3 hrs?! I wake up at 0600. At work by 0700. How long does it take you to wake up?
