What to wear when going to a job fair

I was wondering if wearing a suit to a job fair, meet and greet, or open house would be a bit much. I know that for interviews you should wear a suit but just not sure when attending these types of functions. Some of the job fairs had on site interviews so I was planning to wear a suit to those but others are just information sessions and I don't won't to appear to over do it. Also when going to these functions and meeting the hiring manager, what types of questions should I asked. Should I be taking the opportunity as if it was an interview and just expressing my interest in their units and just selling myself.

Thanks in advance to all replies,

Nola;)

I noticed that people, including myself, who attended a job fair I went to were dressed in business attire. Didn't see anything casual. I would dress conservatively, so as not to detract from the first impression. You might be talking to the person who might be responsible for hiring you, so you don't want to give them a reason to put your resume aside. Good luck.

As an engineer, I have gone to many job fairs. Understand that in many fairs, you could be interviewed right then and there. (I have and literally received job offers on the spot.) Treat this as you would any interview and dress accordingly. I would wear a suit. Have PLENTY of resumes.

I agree with the other posts and just wanted to reinforce what they said. You never know who will be attending from the hiring company, so always dress to impress. Clean, pressed, and tidy.

In talking with booths at job fairs find out their position and go from there.

Nurse- what opportunities are offered for growth and development.

HR- what criteria do they look for in selecting candidates to interview

Find a way to ask a question while "selling" yourself at the same time. For example, "I pride myself in being a team player, what are some of the ways your company encourages team unity." That specific question might be better suited for an interview, but hopefully you get the point.

Pass out your resume to everyone possible.

Thanks to all that have responded.

Most definitely wear a suit and tie!!
