I was talking with a new nurse graduate and she wanted to know what was a highlight of my career. I had to stop and think a minute. I was wondering what other nurses describe as a highlight of their career? Can you give me any examples?

First thing that comes to mind is my favorite story to share with friends from when I worked home health as a new grad.  My patient's dog choked on an apple core.  I ended up doing the doggy Heimlich and had to do CPR because the dog had no pulse.  Actually got the dog back and she was back to normal when I saw her the following week!  Didn't chart that one...

I'm not sure that one's anywhere in my skill set, thank goodness you were there and stepped in!

Using all of my first 3 months nursing earnings and buying my dad an '82 Ford Cortina 1.6GL, in pristine condition, original blue color, from the UK and leaving it at my grandparents for him to use whenever he goes home. It was the first car he had ever owned before coming to America.

When he first saw it, he had some moisture, but pretended he didn't. I remember him and my mum always talking about that car and the trips they took all over the UK.

That was worth saving up all of my nursing wages for!

I love this comment!  What a wonderful daughter you are.  Lovely sentiment!
