I was at a particular job for a year. I had some medical problems, had to go on leave. Went back,a few months later went on another leave due to medical probs, so I told her I wasnt able to "continue working full time" and had to resign.... She emailed me, and said that "perhaps when my issues are resolved, we can consider your return". Now, my question is two fold:
1. Do you think I have a chance at getting this job back, or was the mgr just being "nice", and really didnt mean it. (there are plenty of positions open at this place)
2. Assuming she was genuine, how early can I let her know of my intention to apply again? Its almost july now, and I am having surgery in a month or so, so I will be ready to go back to work full time in, say Sept. should I inquire now, and let her know I will be wanting to come back, or should I wait til I am actually ready to work immediately?
I guess i am asking, should I "feel her out" and tell her I want to come back in Sept, or just wait til then to apply?
Thanks in advance for your input!!!:monkeydance:

Hi! Rnotoday!!I think you shouldnt burn any bridges whatsoever.I would think you could have a good chance of getting that job back.I left a highly stressful job,and the DON happened to work at another facility at a later time and did insist I come work for them.I did,but unfortunately the position I did was eliminated after a short while. But dont burn any bridges.Good luck in whatever ya do. God bless you with your upcoming surgery.Keep us posted.

This sounded genuine to me. Have you been in touch with that manager since you left the job? Do you have her email? If not, I think that it would be fine to call her now, just for a little "chat" and to "catch up" with how things were going at that facility. Let her know that your medical problems will be resolved by the end of the summer and that you would like to have the opportunity to work with her again. Good luck!

Who can say? If you want the job back, follow up. It sounds like you would like to go back. Personally, I would pursue getting re-hired. Just one word of caution - try to tell as little as possible in the future about your personal life and health.
An employer does not have the legal right to know your personal business. Let me repeat that - an employer has no legal right to know your personal business.
All they need or have a right to know is that you need personal time off to take care of a personal matter. You can say you are having surgery or you can leave that fact out.
BTW, are you sure there is no alternative to more surgery? No herbs, chiropractic, accupuncture, or other alternative approaches to get some relief from whatever ails you? I wish you the very best.
I do have her email, should I send one mentioning my intentions? Thats what I was thinking of doing.......
Trudy, nope, I need the surgery.....

You could wait till you have the surgery and make sure there are no complications. That way, if you should have a week or two longer recovery time, you won't look indecisive. If you let her know at the end of July/beginning of August that you would like to come back in September, that seems a reasonable and realistic timetable.
I wish you well with the surgery and with getting rehired.
