What to study before Nursing School

Published

I'm planning on going to LPN School this Oct and I would like to know what current/future students are studying or what you studied before you went to Nursing School

Hello,

I'm starting LPN in October as well. I took all but one prerequisite (APII ) was planning on submitting my packet for the RN program but my AP1 grade was too low and you need it in CT to apply for the RN program at the community colleges. So it really depends on where your taking it. In CT some schools have you take some core classes at a community college before u apply to LPN and other schools like stone academy and porter and Chester have their own curriculum and it's built in- and they don't except transfer credits. I have no regrets on taking all the pre nursing classes because I plan to eventually bridge over to RN down the road.

Just re read your post- from now until October I'm going to study pharmacology and dosage calculations- I want to be ahead of the game because I've heard modules move quickly and you need to score at least a 75% to move on- math was never a strength of mine so I'm focusing on that!

Honestly? Nothing. I would work more so I could save money to have a nice cushion in case I needed to cut back work hours during nursing school. I would also spend extra time with the family because leisure and fun will be scarce during nursing school. These are the things I wished I had done before I started nursing school.

One of my biggest fears is how my three kids will handle mom needing to focus on her for once. I've always stayed home with them and whenever they needed my attention I was there for them. It's going to be an adjustment!

You will all adjust, sometimes painfully, but you will adjust. It is doable. It is harder when you have family obligations but not impossible. Depending on how old your kids are, you can even incorporate your studying to mesh with your family life...do your own homework or study while your kids are also doing their homework. You could take your books/notes/flashcards with you when you are "mom taxi" lol driving them from this activity to that.

For me personally, I had to sometimes be physically away from the house because as long as I was home, everyone thought they could come to me for every little thing even when I had stressed I needed to study. My local public library became a very familiar place.
