What Stethoscope do I purchase for nursing school?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

To all you NS veterans, what is a good stethoscope to purchase that is not high end, not low end, but will do all the things I will need it to do for nursing school? There is such a wide range out there of brands and costs that I am unsure as to what to get! Thanks in advance!

I have been considering purchasing the Littman Cardiology 3, so i wouldn't have to upgrade after school, but a buddy of mine went to a uniform shop near us and she tried out a cheaper model and said it works quite well. So i am currently rethinking that idea.

Also...while my friend was at that shop she mentioned a website online and told the lady about the free engraving. According to that staff member it is a BAD idea to have the head engraved. It changes the structural integrity of the stethescope. So if you want to have something engraved...buy the cheap plaque that you can put on there and have IT engraved.

Some of the students from the current class in the ABSN program I'm starting this fall have recommended we buy our stethescopes from a site that engraves the head.. So this is what I had done.. Wish I read this before! Well, I guess I'll find out when I start school :uhoh3:

I think having your name put on the tubing is also an option at some places.

The best is Littman Classic 2. I am using that for years now

Hey there, I'm not sure if you have purchased your stethoscope already but I wanted to put in my 2 cents :twocents:. I am currently in my final year of school to be an RT. I received my Littmann Classic II SE as a gift prior to beginning clinicals, and I absolutely love it. Many of my classmates started with the cheap stethoscopes, and some of them upgraded to Littmann's. If you don't want to shell out the money for a Classic II, Littmann also makes a Lightweight II SE which is less expensive. It even has an interesting shaped bell! If I hadn't received my Classic, I probably would have bought myself the Lightweight. For a student, I think it would do the job quite nicely. Not that its really important, but I think Littmann has the more comfortable ear pieces ever! Also, most come with a warranty.

As for the conversation on engraving, I think I am going to have mine engraved with my credentials once I pass my boards. If you don't want to engrave yours, you can buy a clip on name tag. It may look a bit tacky, but it gets the job done. I simply keep an eye on my stethoscope. Since it was a gift, it also has sentimental value :)

a Littmann Classic II S.E. would be good for nursing school or you could go up a little higher and get a Master Classic II, for myself i going to get either the Master Classic II or the Card III
