Published

Hi there everyone... I'm sure this as been posted on here before n was just wondering what happens on these shift.... I've only worked 3rd in a nursing home setting before..... I want to b able to pick up extra shifts but have bad anxiety about working a shift I've never done before n I'm afraid of making a mistake... Any advice will help.....

Thank you

First shift you get people up in the morning, give showers, bed baths, dental care, dress the residents, help passing treys in the dining room, feeding(breakfas, lunch), changing linen, soiled dipers, putting (some) residents to bed for the pm nap. Second shift: feeding dinner, changing soiled dipers, helping residents to go to pm activities such as bingo, undressing residents for bed time, dental care, showers. Also, often on first or second shift you will have to ambulate the resident or perform ROM.

I work 1st and 2nd shift at a hospital. 1st shift, we get people up, do vitals, give baths, change linens, serve two meals, answer call lights and do admits. 2nd shift involves vitals, dinner tray pass, getting people to bed, answering call lights, babysitting sundowners, and doing admits. I preferred working 2nd shift at the nursing home over the hospital; when census is low, there isn't much for us to do but when census is high, all we get done is answer call lights.

I work all shifts at the nursing home I'm at. I like third the most. I started on 1st then went to 2nd, now trying to get on 3rd.

Ok- first shift, you started getting people up, not everyone. But the ones on the get up list (fall risk and who normally gets up and who's family want them up) you give your showers. Breakfast start about 8:30, you push everyone to the dinning room, if your assigned you have to be there to pass trays. After breakfast, you push everyone back. Finish dressing your residents and getting them up and doing showers and vitals. And then lunch is about 11:30, once lunch is over which is about 12:45- 1:00 you lay people down, for second shift, who wants to lay down and who's not getting back up and change everyone, pass ice, and start charting and leave.

2nd shift- its a lot of showers, you start showers and lay people down that 1st couldn't. Change everyone and take vitals- you'll be doing this until dinner which is around 5-6pm then after dinner, you finish off showers and lay everyone down and probably take a break and then do your last rounds and then its time to go.

Thanks for the replied... It really helps me out
