I am going to be a new nursing student and was wondering what scholarships and/or grants that others have applied for and received. And, if not too personal, how much.
Thank you!!

I just started applying to any that I qualify for. It's a bit difficult for me since I have already obtained my bachelors. My school has some scholarships, but I'm waiting for the 2011 applications to be available. Once they are, I'm going to pounce.

I applied to the PEO International scholarship. I was told they voted and I won $3000! I haven't received any paperwork yet, but I'm really excited.

I am not eligible for grants, however I am getting through school with scholarships and non-subsidized loans. I also do not have a previous degree.
I will be applying to a BSN program in January and hopefully start the nursing program in May. I have already applied to the U as a transfer student, so I can take the last of my pre-reqs in the spring. After I was accepted to the U, I just filled out their all purpose scholarship form and left it at that. I haven't applied for any other types, mostly because you have to be accepted into a nursing program, which I'm not yet.
Because I have a 4.0 from my A.S., I was awarded a Presidential Transfer Scholarship from the U which gives me $1000 per semester, renewable each semester as long as I maintain my GPA over 3.5. As well, since I joined Phi Theta Kappa, I was eligible for another $500 per semester from them, renewable as well.
Both of these come to about 50% of my tuition. Now, I just to keep those grades up so the scholarships keep renewing. Nothing like pressure! LOL
At the Informational Meeting on Sept 22, they said that they were accepting 70. The Visalia Times Delta had an article about the grant that said without the grant they would only be accepting 50, but with the grant 70 additional students and that they had accepted 80 the previous semester. So, I thought 120, too. But, at the meeting they said 70. There is another meeting at Hospital Rock 134 at 4 pm on Oct 27. They were open to answering all quesitons.
And......... I am a little fuzzy about the gpa stuff because once they said 4.0s were in, I was too happy. But, from what I remember below 3.0 in the 3 science have little chance, 3.2 and above maybe and 3.6 most likely. She said that they usually receive about 30 students with 4.0. So, I think you are most likely in. I really really do. Good luck, the letters should be to us no later than Nov. 15.
I know they go by the biology gpa but after that what do they base it on? Let's say there's a tie in the biology GPA...what goes next? From what you know in the meeting
Say there are 10 spots left, but 15 people have the same GPA, they put all the names in a computer generated lottery program and the computer ranks the students. The first ten are in, the last five are out. That is according to the info at the meeting. But, I wonder when the English gpa is calculated in. The TEAS is simply a pass/no pass and has not actual bearing on ranking.
Waiting is soooooooooooooooo hard. I can't believe it takes this long. How can it take four months???? And, then two more months to wait before classes start. Ugh!!!
Haha actually it's gonna come the end of October or the first week of November ...and I believe the teas test is included in the spot.
At the meeting, they said that the score of the TEAS didn't matter, only that it was above 67% and that the letters would be mailed by mid-November. And, the website says the letters will be mailed by Nov 15. Where did you hear that we will recieve the letters in Oct or early Nov?

I have won two merit scholarships - so they are all academic scholarships and not need based scholarships. :)
