What do they "really" look at on your application???

Published

Hi Everyone,

I finally applied to the nursing program last week after 2 1/2 years of taking all of my pre and co-req's. They say we won't find out until the end of May or beginning of June. My question is.......how many people actually evaluate our informational packets? We had to submit quite a few things and I would really hope they take the time to read everything that we submitted. Does anyone have any knowledge what they really look for when going through applications? Thanks.

It really depends on the school, to be honest.

My school looks only at GPA and credits taken at the school, that's it. Not even your name, they have no idea of who is applying. At least this is what I hear. So it all depends on your school. But I would imagine if they are asking for an essay and references then they most likely do take those into consideration.

Specializes in Ortho/Trauma.

Pre req GPA, test score for w/e your program requires, work experience, ability to speak another language...volunteering/low SES/disadvantaged background stuff secondary

my school is purely grades, classes you took( like if you took any extra that were not required), and HESI A2 scores.

Specializes in ICU.

Mine is scoring us on cumulative GPA, science GPA, # of pre-reqs you have done already (you can apply while still having a few to take, asusming you take them while you're waiting to hear back about acceptance, although it's far better to have them all done, since if you fail the pre-req(s), you can't start the nursing program even if you've been accepted), and 5 short (2-3 sentences) answers to questions about why you want to be a nurse, why you chose that school, ect.
