I'm looking at a variety of PCT positions to apply to and there is one posted called PCT - med-surg overflow...what on earth does that mean? I searched and see many references to overflow units and I got no idea what that means either.
I thinking its mean either the PCT is an extra "overflow" support staff who they cut hours to send home as needed or does it mean the PCT will not necessarily be working only on the med surg floor?

You would have to talk to the HR department there, it could mean any number of things.

I would say it is much like per diem. You work when you are needed and are the first have your shift canceled/shortened when the census is low.
At the hospital where I worked, we had an "overflow" unit that opened when additional beds were needed such as during flu season. There were nurses that were hired from a nursing pool to work that unit. Most of the time this unit was closed.

Could be prn or could be a float position meaning you work on whatever unit needs help.
